Description This piece, replicating the book house, highlights a few of the many events that took place over the course of 91 episodes. Can you reference them all?

For four seasons, The Golden Oak Library has been central to the story of countless episodes, not just as the residence of Twilight Sparkle, Spike and Owlicious, but as a place for Twilight and her friends to gather as they began their journey discovering the magic of friendship.

The treehouse has taken many beatings, including pegasus crashes, uprootings and giant apple implosions, before ultimately being razed when Tirek attacked.

from top: "Twilight's Kingdom, Pt.1" (4x25), "Feeling Pinkie Keen" (1x15), "It's About Time" (2x20), "Magical Mystery Cure" (3x13),Β Dragonshy (1x07), "Owl's Well That Ends Well" (1x24), "Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3" (4x21), "Party of One" (1x25), "Friendship is Magic, Pt.1" (1x01)

This piece was made before the airing of "Castle Sweet Castle" (5x03).

I really miss the Golden Oak Library. In particular, the Library appears to resemble the superior format of the show that was so prominent from Season 1-4.

Oh, dear. I'm depressing myself...

The truth is that I started watching MLP: FIM on May 2014 but I wasn't watching it in order at first, i saw the season 4 finale before I saw all the other episodes from the season 1 premiere. Though I did get surprised when the library was destroyed, I tried forget it but then I didn't feel so sad or angry after seeing all four seasons. While I was waiting for season 5 I thought the library could be restored, but in the 'castle sweet castle' it didn't! That's when I got so angry and upset. I think it's because that whether I may have ruined my own experience while I've watched it or I should have started watching the show more earlier

Actually, there's still hope that Ponyville will get a new library tree.
See that little sapling next to Golden Oaks?
It was shown to have SURVIVED the destruction of the big tree - and in "Castle Sweet Castle", we see that it is still growing strong.
Moreover, the size of the root chandelier clearly shows that it was made from the remains of the BIG tree. Β The little sapling's fate is still unclear.

Hopefully, Applejack replanted the little sapling in the spot where the big tree used to be. Β And eventually, the little sapling will grow into a brand-new library tree.

I mean, there must be a VERY good reason that the writers had this little sapling survive.

boogopii [2015-04-25 01:18:57 +0000 UTC]

Doesn't anyone hate it when the writers killed off the library and turned it into an ugly chandelier?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

XGluon In reply to boogopii [2015-04-26 14:35:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't think it's been killed off COMPLETELY.
If you'll notice, while the main tree was destroyed, the small sapling off to the right(you can see it in this picture) was completely unscathed. Β And we could see that, in "Castle Sweet Castle," that sapling was still growing strong.
Moreover, the size of the root chandelier indicates that they used the remains of the BIG tree for the chandelier. Β The little sapling's fate is still unknown.

Chances are, the writers will have this little sapling grow into a brand-new library tree for Ponyville. Β It DOES still need a public library, after all.

It could happen; it reminds me of how in The Return of the King, (the book) Saruman and his men were going down chopping trees in the Shire, but Sam had a box from Galadriel that had some mysterious powder (I think) that when he spread on the tree trunks and planted a seed where the tree Bilbo gave his Farewell Speech under, and in springtime, trees blossomed again!

I know how you feel about that, it was not the best decision however it has at least given the new castle a chance to stand out in the show for a while since we have hardly seen any of it since it's introduction. But given the fact the twilight's library has still not been reconstructed/regrown it now raises the questions what will ponyville do with out a public library?, they still need one and what other life will twilight sparkle want when ever she is not spreading friendship around equestria?, i am hoping that the writers will address this somewhere down the road, it just does not feel that the library situation is a completed story and it is leading to something else. Lovely picture; and yes, Golden Oak Library will be missed.... R.I.P.

But there's something I wanna say based on some of the comments I've read. I'm afraid people (not pointing fingers) fail to realize that this show has always been made for merchandise, and more importantly, Twilight's castle does have...guess what? A library, and there's one episode where Twilight's friends and Spike try to make her feel more comfortable.

What I'm trying to say is, including all the stuff I wrote, like with the whole Twilicorn thing, I'd say we should just accept this happened and continue watching the show, or leave the fandom, stop watching the show, and stop ruining it for people who enjoy it.

Fans sometimes...

XD-385 In reply to Seiya-Meteorite [2015-04-24 01:42:36 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry to say that comment doesn't hold much water. And it doesn't matter that there is a library in the new castle. It's about what this place meant in contrast to this new location that is obviously a BLATANT play set advertisement. There is more and more proof going around on why Season 3 did more harm than good, especially with Magical Mystery Cure and its pathetic unrealistic pandering on the concept of destiny, and it is clearly showing that Hasbro has nothing but contempt for their consumers now when they used to have so much respect for them during the first two seasons. Accept this change? No, we need to make sure Hasbro knows what they did was not the best choice for the show. It didn't have to be this way and you know it. We are adults, not kids. We have the intelligence to analyze and see when something is not good. If you still enjoy the show as it is, that's fine. But turning a blind eye to the problems or even just going along with it knowing that it was a mistake is not mature at all and invites further mistakes and I am not going to lower my standards for anyone.

Hasbro may be entitled to get as much of a profit out of their property as they desire, but the moment they do so while actually damaging the quality of their product is the moment where they are no longer entitled to be protected from criticism. When your efforts to get as much of a profit out of your property as possible becomes detrimental to your product, and you know that it is proving detrimental to your product, then you are showing nothing but contempt for your consumers. The current video game industry is another prime example of this disgusting marketing practice.

And yeah, thanks. Real fans have the balls to stand up and point out when the makers of their favorite games/shows/franchises screwed up and tell the developers why they screwed up. And even more so when they actually enjoy something that is bad, yet are able to admit that it is bad. That takes integrity.

I'm not expecting everyone to understand, but it needed to be said. And if this genuine criticism from fans really bothers you that badly, I recommend you just turn a deaf ear to it, because it will never go away until Hasbro starts taking their work on this show as seriously as they used to.

I agree with you completely. And I know what you mean about the gaming industry. I've heard some things....cough Call of Duty clones everywhere! Cough cough!

As for Twilight becoming a princess. Surprisingly it didn't bother me all that much. I had a feeling from the start that she was being prepared for something with all of the lessons. So it wasn't much of a shock when it happened. It turned out better than I thought it would actually. I had this dread forming for awhile that they were going to make her the ruler of Equestria. It was starting to look like Celestia was grooming Twilight for that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XD-385 In reply to PoshPegasus [2015-05-01 17:53:00 +0000 UTC]

It would've been all right if Twilight actually did have some prior interest in rulership and Celestia was not outright manipulating her, especially when she gambled with the lives of everyone in the Crystal Empire. Twilight never had a choice in the matter and is letting everyone decide her destiny for her. Her just going along with all of these life-changing is highly unrealistic and the show does so without the slightest hint of irony or self awareness. And as someone who deeply relates to her, I find this to be nothing short of insulting to people like me. Not to mention the whole "destiny" tripe is overdone and not something you can work in with characters you are supposed to deeply relate to because there's no such thing as a "true destiny". And that's not something kids should be taught. They should be taught that they should follow their own path and decide their own fate.

If you find enjoyment in it, that's fine, but the implications the show is giving the viewers is not only unhealthy, but rather disgusting too.

If people are accepting a fate that's given to them, (like Haruka and Michiru from Sailor Moon accepting their fates as soldiers) aren't they deciding their own fate?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XD-385 In reply to Seiya-Meteorite [2015-05-07 14:58:02 +0000 UTC]

It all depends on the character and the fate that is presented to them. Having the world dumped on your shoulders and then going along with it while having been manipulated into that position is not something I would expect anyone with any depth to go along with without even briefly complaining about it.

XD-385 In reply to Seiya-Meteorite [2015-05-07 16:53:16 +0000 UTC]

It doesn't matter whether or not it looked like it to you. The truth of the matter is that Twilight was being manipulated behind her back for well over a decade of her life, being led towards a fate she never signed up for. That is not something that should warrant a happy smile upon revelation and is a massive violation of trust. Only reason Twilight could even remotely go along with that without an argument is due to her obsessive blind reverence of her mentor. It's not a realistic or healthy portrayal at all. It's the equivalent of someone taking an interest in photography throughout most of their life only for their family to ship him/her off to military school.

XD-385 In reply to Seiya-Meteorite [2015-05-07 19:01:26 +0000 UTC]

True, even though her making friends feels more than a little hollow considering Celestia's ulterior motives behind everything though. I suggest you take a close look at this on TVtropes when you have the chance. It's all unbiased facts and told like it is. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php…

If you still like the show despite its faults though, that's your choice. Just don't ever try to tell someone they're wrong when they actually take the time and effort to see what has gone wrong with the material.

Seiya-Meteorite In reply to XD-385 [2015-04-24 12:45:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.

I've already seen too much negativity from bronies...like remember the person who started the whole Derpy controversy (saying how she thought Derpy was offensive; IMO, she's just klutzy like Usagi from Sailor Moon), and how the fans reacted to her when they forced her out? (Just like with Filli Vanilli ) I sometimes when I look at different reviews of episodes also, I kinda feel conflicted and a bit sandwiched; I'm afraid the fandom has split also.

And I've also heard of games they've sometimes created...

I don't always have problems like that though, or agree or see what the fans are saying. I think Mare-Do-Well (yes that episode) IMO, is actually really good and underrated, and I don't care if anyone (or anypony) else likes it or not. I think its reception was mixed the first time it came out, if you look at TV.com on one of its negative reviews, 2 people found it helpful, 2 did not.

XD-385 In reply to Seiya-Meteorite [2015-04-24 19:20:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that was not a good move by Hasbro. Rather than cave in right away, they should have made clear Derpy's purpose and the meaning behind her name. You need to thoroughly understand the subject before criticizing it.

Yeah. It was probably also a bunch of overprotective parents...believe it or not, when the first MLP special was released, while I believe kids enjoyed it, parents thought it was too dark?

On another topic, I actually think seasons 3 and 4 look good (I will admit, I'm actually starting to get into MLP, but I have seen fan videos and glimpsed at reviews of episodes), but I'm just stating my opinion.

I won't deny that the animation did start to improve with Season 3. It was subtle, but you noticed it. Of course, animation alone does not make a show like this good. It is the plot and characters that carry the weight while the animation compliments it. At least when done right.

The point being made was basically this: "shiny, sparkly, crystals! perfect toy material!" its inorganic crystalline structure is supposedly more aesthetically appealing to girls who want toys. that is how hasbro sees it, and as long as they believe that, it will probably remain crystal.
