UM. I usually don't do this, because I like trades to be a surprise and such...But I want to get better at this whole art thing.
Right now, I don't want any critiques on the anatomy- it's inked, and I don't want to have to go back and re-ink it. So, just help me with the shading right now.
I haven't finished coloring her in yet, so just focus on what is shaded(or if you have any advice on how to shade something that isn't colored in, let me know!). I think I'm going to change the color of the sky slightly, because it's too close to the color of the blue highlights I used, but... yeah.
I'm thinking about removing the blue from the hair, though... dunno yet.
Ultimately, someday, I want to have a paintery style- you know, professional quality paintery. n__n;;
Jinx, if you see anything that needs changing, just let me know. :3 (But I know all your toes are a lighter purple, i just forgot and kept coloring. XD;; I'll color over the purple on the back foot when I get to it.)

BUT!
It has been quite a bit of help for me to look at the muscle-makeup of canines and lay them over my image (rotating and whatnot to fit the pose of whatever I am drawing) and also lowering the opacity. Then shade darker in areas that the muscles either meet or recede- and conversely, highlight where the muscles raise or overlap.

Wooww, Doomy, this looks fantastic already. @3@ I so envy people who can do that paintery coloring style.. it gives pictures such a lovely look. O:
Anyway, ahh.. I dunno what I can offer as far as critique. xD;; Maybe tweak the lighting around the back haunches..? It looks like there should be a little more light on the rump, so that the light hits it at the same angle as it does the shoulder. :B
Also, the lighting on the face is *beautiful*. <3333 Like.. woww. I'm seriously awed, rotfl~ The only thing I think might improve it is to maybe put some soft light on the lower jaw. It's pretty dark down there and it's hard to see the lovely mouth detail. D:

I think it's really good so far and seems like it will turn out well.
I think shading and highlights in this case is interesting as you are working with a character that is predominantly black and as a result has little shaded areas. I may suggest that you turn the black into a dark dark almost black gray so that you do have the ability to very subtly add shade.
Another suggestion I have, though this may not really be your style, is to consider shading in a fur like manner opposed to the smooth shading the character has now.
I think you should definately consider area lighting. If you look at your picture consider where the light is coming from, pick a point and consider the way light would act when coming from that direction. Right now your light is acting as if it is kind of bouncing or radiating from the tree, which could be really nice is you kind of give the tree the same feeling.
Lol that may be a lot but I really do like it thus far and this is only my opinion on what could possibly improve the piece as that is what you asked ^.^

Omg, this is gorgeous. Everything is nicely done; I love how you did the positions, and aww..the mood.
My suggestion though is to try to make the background less flat? I don't know, give it 3 quality (add more land and trees and the sort in the back, maybe)?
A lot of people who do backgrounds get that, I think its great so far.

Well, I'm not the best shader in the world, but I can definitely say that the shading everywhere should be just as detailed at what you have for the head so far. Be sure to balance them out is what I guess I'm saying. But I can see where you're going with it, so just keep on, keep on! Also, be sure to consider the light source (but I know you know that). C: Sorry I'm no help at all.
