For those of you who are following my stuff and have been wondering if Captain Jace Pyrs ever finds anyone . . .


Yep. He finds this guy eventually He finally came into focus a couple of days ago (ie, I gave him a name )


So, this is Brant. 25 year old cook's assistant at Doumerlas palace. I think the Captain has a thing for dark hair


Also, for anyone wondering, the Captain would never look for a lover in his ranks . . . that would just open a lot of issues about favoritism and other things that he does not want to have to deal with, so finding someone out of the military makes a lot of sense to him.

Got to give the lonely man someone once he's not so busy I mention Brant in passing in one of the Yokov stories, but it's nice to have him fleshed out a bit more

He's actually mentioned veeery briefly at the end of the second Yokov story, after the Captain and Yokov have their little sparring match But now he finally has a look and a name

Oh he's really handsome, no wonder that lovely hair and those captivating golden eyes caught the captain's attention! I wonder, how does Brant cope with Jace's strictness, formal behaviour and demanding attitude? Or is Jace a different person in his private life (and he's happy to take a break from all the captain-ness ^^)?

Brant catches the Captain at a moment when Jace is being forced to actually think about his life rather than simply react. Jace gets what he's always wanted, a competent King who knows exactly what he's doing and how to get the best, trustworthy people for the jobs required. Jace basically finds himself with free time for the first time in years, by order of his King, and he's lost because of it


A lot of Jace's hardness comes out of necessity, he has felt he has to be that way to earn the respect of those around him. I think with Brant he finds someone whom he can relax around (like he could with Alaestor) so Brant sees a side of the Captain that nobody even knows exists. Brant's the only person he lets call him Jace. Although, in some of the stuff I've written with them recently, Brant also calls him "my captain" as a term of affection.

Haha so he's the kind of person who thrives on stress and action Yes, it makes sense with his personality, and also that he's been so involved in his career that he's made himself a persona that suits him and his job but doesn't fully represent him, so he enjoys taking it off but is also pretty confused without it. That's cute, I'd love to see more about these two

Yep! That's his boyfriend (although at 36 I think the Captain would object to the term "boyfriend" ) It's one of those things that happens after everything gets settled down and Jace isn't as busy as he had been, he's got to find something to keep himself occupied . . . and Brant volunteers
