Major Fantasy Influences:

Full Metal Alchemist (Brotherhood) - Oh my gosh I can't imagine my writing sans FMA influence. I generally try to keep personal principles out of my works, but one that I do reflect on a lot is the concept that 'Life sucks sometimes, but it can always get better- you have to keep going.' That's largely because of this series. I'm not even -that- into anime, but this is more then just an anime for me. It's a huge part of what made my stories what they are today.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - (For anyone wondering, I'm waiting for Korra to come out on DVD before watching it. So no spoilers!) Unlike FMA, which I only picked up a few years ago, A:TLA is very much a long-standing childhood influence. It was something I watched regularly with my dad and sister while growing up, and I believe it's heavily influenced my works toward utilizing mythology and mysticism from different cultures.

The Tale of Despereaux - Another influence from when I was growing up- my favorite book of all time! It actually shares a lot in common with FMA in my eyes, particularly regarding the Aesop about accepting past failures and pushing on no matter what. You can't always get what you want- but when you try, sometimes you get what you need. =3

Fahrenheit 451 - Something else I write about that's very important to me is anti-extremist censorship laws and the importance of cultural preservation. This book touches on a sensitive area for me, it took years before I got the courage to finally read it, and cried every time I did. I once wrote a personal creed which mentioned "Burning books in that evil city"; a heartfelt nod to F451.

Lord of the Rings - As a fantasy writer it would just be improper for me to not credit LotR. It made the genre what it is- it's hard to imagine anyone who WASN'T influenced by it.

Xenogears, Roald Dahl and The Secret Garden - I can't really put these into words, but they're certainly there, mostly in stylistic choice. Same goes for the poetic influences.

Side note: It's not on the map because I've honestly never read too many of his things, but I've been told multiple times that I write in a similar style to HP Lovecraft. O-o Huh.
