Two things though, if you allow constructive criticism
1st - I don't know if this background was intended for the motive all a long, if not, I think you've missed the space separating his left (from his perspective) arm from the torso. It's simply black there.
2nd - Judging from the shadow casted by his body, the light source would be placed approximately straight above him right? In this case I think that the shadow casted by the blade end of the spear might be a boit too short.
Hope that gave you something to work with, even thought as you say it is an old artwork.
