Not to sound like a total A-hole... and Please don't take it personal, I know you work under art director with a pre-set concept. But my problem with all those "alien" design is that, they're pretty much human. The anatomy is completely human or humanoid, with two legs, two arm, one head, two eyes... and all that... The only difference, that "looks" alien, is the head... still two eyes, one nose, one mouth, but somehow looks a bit different from normal human being.
This design concept of humanoid alien is almost universal in movie and game. I mean take Mass Effect for example, most of the intelligent alien are humanoid. yes, I understand, humanoid alien is easier for people to relate to. We follow the long tradition all the way back to Star Trek. And if I end up designing one, I'll totally go with the formula.
But still... I just can't help but thinking, can we have an alien that's not humanoid yet still falls into the category of "Character" instead of "Creature"?
That'd be a challenge.
As for your design, I like #4, she looks like a queen compare to other design.

Well yes you are right. The art director asked for a humanoid character that was queen like but was also known to be formidable on the battle field. She was to be a main character so of course going way out from humanness would take away from relatability.
Thanks for the thoughts though.
my fave was #8..
