Is that a pileated woodpecker? Those are, I think, the largest in the US. Nice photo, full of "bokeh." (:

I think so. We usually see the Downy Woodpecker, which is one of the smallest. These were big, at least a foot long. Thanks!

Yeah, just looked it up to be sure. They grow to a foot easily. And are the "second-largest" woodpeckers in North America, behind a bird that's likely extinct., the "ivory-billed" woodpecker. So, not only a nice photo, but a fairly rare sighting. Good for you! I've only seen one once, in Missouri. I live on the West coast, and have never seen another, outside of photos. May be more common in Canada....
