Description
Hey guys,So the color on this is taking longer than I thought
So I figured I would get some feedback from anyone who cares to give it ^^
Too detailed? Or too dark? I already flattened the panels thus far, so I can't really do a quick change, but any feedback would be really helpful for page 2.
Meanwhile, I'll go work on more commissions <3

It's looking great! I'm not an expert on comic pages or anything, but its a bit too colorful for me, not that i hate color or anything but the colors seem to clash a bit, so maybe less saturation is some parts?

I would really love to know how you did this because I am working with a group on comics and I would love to learn that coloring style or something like it for the newest one coming up.
It looks really nice, it reminds me of the old Marvel or DC comics that would put in all the detail in their work.

I'm still waiting for your drawing of a KaluaNari so I can draw Accede but I was thinking of showing her markings on a cat... so at least you'll have the markings for your comic.

WTF! OMG! UR RIGHT!!!!! KAY FEDEWA TOTALLY COPYRIGHTED AND OWNS ALL COMICS!!!!!!!11!!1!111 o.0;;
ok, now for someone who has a brain
I've got to say I do love this so far, the little panel with the feet. nice job, I can't tell if it is bear or what. but I do know it is an animal, and the one next to it, I see the little shadows of something off in the distance.
and the background is obviously not that of the woods or your standard forest. but that of something lush, but not swampy. can't wait to see more of this looking forward to it

Thank you very much, I'm really glad you like it so far. Once the actual page is up, the main species will be revealed. Right now, they're in a sort of forest in south america.
I thank you for your comment, but please keep sarcasm to a minimum. I don't think they meant much harm in the comment, so we'll just leave it at that ♥

I think it's looking good so far! And I like that you set up the scene with all of the background work The only minor thing I can suggest to help break up the page into its respective panels would be to make the borders white once you're finished. Since you have really dark shadows in the color images themselves, a lighter color on the borders will help establish the start and finish of each panel
I look forward to more pages! You know how I love comics

ohhh, I never thought of that! hmm, maybe I'll give that a try once I'm done with the panels. Does it look weird to switch between black and white lines on different pages?
yay * hugz*
also, how've you been? I haven't been around much due to student loan issues ><;

Kizziesama In reply to DreamerLucifer [2010-07-21 17:56:15 +0000 UTC]
A little odd, which is why I suppose you may want to find a nice medium in there Perhaps a desaturated light blue, so there's some color to break up the black, but not too light to interfere with possible light colors in the panel
Or you can even make thinner black borders, rather than having it seem like it's set on a black background (dear god, I don't even know if I'm explaining it the way that I mean... I may just have to draw you a damned diagram
).
I'm doing all right. We had a bit of a family crisis on my end (loss in the family) and it left my sister and niece pretty... well, devastated really :C But, they're doing a little better, as am I We're managing.

Yeah, I knew it would sound confusing I'll draw a mock comic page so you get an idea of what I mean
I'll email it to you. I keep forgetting which one you prefer for me to use, so do tell.
It's tough. Sadly, it was my niece's father :C The poor dear doesn't quite understand the concept of death (she's nine years-old. She understands it, but not to the extent an adult would understand it... she asks my sister why she can't see her daddy anymore, and it breaks her apart to hear her say it ). She's hanging in there, as she's a tough little girl. It's just so difficult for her to understand.

I think it's wonderful! I will warn you though, the more detailed each page is the slower releasing them will be. I started out my comic very similar, in digital and with over 5-6 panels per page it took like 3 months per page! I started it over in a much simpler format this Jan and am a good way in and a lot happier! ^_^ If you can stick with it go for it! It does look great, it's a ton of work and dedication to follow through on a comic.

DreamerLucifer In reply to Eviecats [2010-07-21 17:49:44 +0000 UTC]
I think I'm going to try and keep establishing panels detailed, and backdrops for characters not so detailed. This way their location sets the scene. leaves a little to the imagination I guess.
But I also see exactly what you mean with your comics, and it makes a lot of sense.

geraldTuraray [2010-07-21 08:16:52 +0000 UTC]
whoa nice detail.
hmm some inputs from my end-
(1) normally when panels are detailed, the panel formatting is simpler. that way, reader's eyes are automatically guided from one panel to another.
(2) that level of detail is hard to keep up over time.
anyway take my inputs with grain (or sack) of salt i write comics but don't draw too well.

DreamerLucifer In reply to geraldTuraray [2010-07-21 17:47:34 +0000 UTC]
I like your input, could you by chance scribble me a sample of a more simple panel format? Right now I've just been going by my friend's input as far as paneling.
I agree with you on the detail, since it has been rather slow going. So I was thinking of using high detail to establish location, and simpler styles in the panels where the characters are the focus
And I love helpful crit <3

[link] <-- here you go
general direction of image also helps guide the reader's eyes. what you can do is use the direction the characters are looking at to easy panel-to-panel transition. lines in the composition can help too.

I agree to an extent, as I said to someone else, I'm now thinking I will keep details for establishng background panels, yet be a bit more blurred when the character is the focus

I'm interested in making a comic and I have Manga Studio four.

DreamerLucifer In reply to Da-Lizzard [2010-07-21 17:44:11 +0000 UTC]
Oh, programs, I've been using just photoshop CS3
I really really want Painttool Sai, since it has such epic blending, but for now I'm stuck with Photoshop XD
I have no idea if manga studio would be good or not. I have a version of it, but it's only black and white.

Da-Lizzard [2010-07-21 06:49:40 +0000 UTC]
I love this. What a detailed and colorful comic! Though I would warn you against making it TOO detailed because that seems to cause a lot of artists to bur out and abandon the project...

DreamerLucifer In reply to Da-Lizzard [2010-07-21 17:42:51 +0000 UTC]
I'm thinking I will be detailed when the background is the focus, and then less detailed when the characters are the focus. This way the setting is clear even when the panel may be cryptic.

No, see.. this makes me want to read more, not think about anything else. XD
PLEASE FINISH THIS! 8D *flails excitedly*
I suppose, if you want to save time and get the backgrounds done faster, to simplify shapes and forms to silhouettes that are recognizable but not as detailed. Obviously that first close-up shot can be detailed, as well as the feet in the middle panel, but yeah. This is looking great so far! Keep it up <3

DreamerLucifer In reply to Kezrek [2010-07-21 05:44:08 +0000 UTC]
oh yay ;^; that makes me really happy. I've put a lot of thought into this storyline over the last few years, so I'm hoping it works out well XD
It shall be finished! I'm hoping I continue the comic even after I've completed the novel XD
And yea, I think in upcoming pages, it will have to have a bit less details, especially since the characters will be taking up most of the panels. But overall, the whole thing feels a tad too saturated, and dark. But not dark in the way It's supposed to be XD
I'm really glad you like it so far though *hugz*

Kezrek In reply to DreamerLucifer [2010-07-21 05:52:06 +0000 UTC]
I understand completely. I'm really psyched to see your story come to life!
Dark, but not dark? Maybe shifting around the contrast levels will help you out there. (I use Levels a looooot, more often than Brightness/Contrast) =3
*huuugz* No problem <3

DreamerLucifer In reply to Kezrek [2010-07-21 17:41:35 +0000 UTC]
thanks for that, I gave it a try, and it seems to have lightened up a bit. Unfortunately, it's a tad more saturated. But I think it's better than before XD
