• joel's family moved to ontario from jamaica when jamie was 3, and Joel was 7. they go home every year or two to visit their fam~

• joel starts out as a hobbyist photographer in his spare time, wandering in nature, and capturing little moments and wonders that he sees, but eventually starts taking on small gigs and doing it professionally
(he's also the photographer jay and zodiac hire at their wedding ♥)

• he loves food and currently works at a bakery, where he meets his mate, jesse mcclean. she was a frequent customer who'd hang around and talk to him a lot, and they both secretly had the hots for each other, so eventually after fishing out the fact that he's single n ready to mingle, she leaves him her number and the rest is historyyy~~~~

• he eventually becomes the manager of said bakery, and possibly owner when the current one retires and passes it on

• they eventually get married (both propose at the same time on a picnic at the very remote top of a mountain, thinking they were both being SO SO sneaky lol), and adopt three kids (first an atavian, then a deaf centaur -they all learn sign language for a while before committing to him - then an elven human with some behavioural issues, who chills out and flourishes under their dedicated nurturing care ♥), then a while after decide to have a fourth and final child through in-vitro fertilization pregnancy with donor sperm (they don't feel like they're 'missing' anything from their other kids, just wanna experience pregnancy, breastfeeding, and having a genetic kid as well), and they all live happily ever afterrrr with a very full house, and very full lives <333

(PS neither him nor his brother are related to okapi. centaurs with african heritage simply tend to have stripey legs, just as they tend to have dark skin)
