Description
...at first i thought the powerlines in the foreground were distracting, but i ended up not finding any other place to shoot without them....the other set of lines/cables (angled) seem to mesh ok with the horizontal ones, but i have no idea what the blips of light are in the plume of smoke. hmmm....Related content

eheh, don't be misunderstood...
you know, there is a pure, light, flat view in 3D (actually i don't understand too much about 3D)i wanted to bring out these features of your photo!

In a way I think the power liens add to the picture...very industrial. This is a great shot

could those lights be reflections on a filter?

thanks, glad you like it.... but i'm not sure what is inspiring---hopefully it doesn't inspire you to build a polluting petrochemical plant in your backyard..

thanks, haven't been tossed from a chemical plant, yet, only the super-dangerous waterfall fountain....! (sarcasm, of course)
regarding the air quality, yes, it is disgusting, in many ways. many toxins are profoundly dangerous, of that I am quite sure; for some, they're short term bad ass evil and revolting, but, I think even more so are those compounds that we're just now getting a handle on---these take a while to cause problems (low dose, long exposure). of course, there are only a scant few we know much about compared to the zillions that get made and dumped into the air and water---most of the stuff is still a mystery, sadly. the ones i'm impressed with (in terms of potency) are those that act at very low levels during embryonic development, those that wonderfully change the DNA so that the damage is permanent and is readily passed on from generation to generation. i can readily imagine someone's mother getting dosed with something henious in the earlier industrial plants during wartime, unknowingly carrying a future baby boomer after she and the husband had a week off during his christmas leave in 1943. the little tyke was born 8 months later with permanent genetic damage, and the next many, many generations of kids turn out to have a 5x higher incidence of liver cancer, or some such thing.....viva la baby boomers with good health insurance!
but isn't it worth it to have computers and cars and televisions and long lasting teflon coatings for cookware and guitar pics and tupperware and great insulations for wires and pipes and excellent toothbrushes and, lest we forget, diet coke that stays delicious in a can for 5 years?
we're doomed....not so much because of the chemicals, but because we're too damn lazy to stop the obvious. if we could only get rid of the stupid rich old white guys controling the corporations......nah, it'll never happen.
Well, Happy New Year!
(i don't often rant, but it seemed to be a good time to do it... now i'm going to go grab my plastic bodied camera and take some pics and store them on my plastic framed 4GB card. but i'll be driving a hybrid, at least)

LOL...good read. I might have mentioned to you but I studied Genetics in grad school...worked with Drosophila mutants for my thesis work. I used to work at MD Anderson Cancer center in ovarian cancer research until I lost the patience for such arduous work.
Anyway, humans will adapt, and if not we will perish...its our simple evolutionary design...and while we save and protect the weakest genes of all, I tend to wonder what the future holds. I always thought that we were the first species in the history of this planet to finally take natural selection into our own hands, not only for ourselves but for all living creatures.
Anyway, contemplating the architecture of the universe has been more of an interest as of late anyway...yeah I'm weird. If you interested take a look at string theory, the 11th dimension, and m-theory. Happy New Year!
