Description A large custom bead sprite based on Link as designed for Twilight Princess. This one took awhile because it uses almost every color I have and many of them!

Wow, this looks like it took a long time to create! Also looks like you have a very good eye for colors and detail. I myself was born with color "blindness" or deficiency, so doing things this epic is pretty much impossible for me. Please keep up the epic work!

DrOctoroc In reply to nintentofu [2008-09-15 01:09:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much. I have a good friend who is color blind but I still don't understabd how it impairs one. Oddly enough, he dresses very well, and very coordinated color-wise, haha.

nintentofu In reply to DrOctoroc [2008-09-15 03:10:24 +0000 UTC]

The odd thing is that color blindness can effect people differently. Some people have trouble with one shade, or a few shades. But it varies on what shades are affected per person. Whatever you do, don't ask him "What color is this?!" ^__^ I heard it way to much growing up and after the 100th time it became a bit annoying. ;D

Just in general about how large is this? You should seriously start a business selling these. I'd love to buy one! :3

DrOctoroc In reply to Navrozidis [2008-09-01 03:48:52 +0000 UTC]

I do sell them. I have an ETSY store that I still need to replenish, where I sell the smaller stuff, and I sell the larger stuff at shows and cons that are local - there just isn't enough money to be made if I have a lot of travel expenses. I have yet to ship anything as big as the Link, which is now mounted on an olive green background on foamcore, making the full piece around 2x2.5 feet. I'm more than willing to sell them to anyone interested. I have someone interested in buying the Link right now, but if he decides not to, you're the first person I'll let know. If I had to guess on a shipping price, it would probably be around $20, just to ensure a large enough packing and enough filler to prevent damage. As long as they are kept flat, they wont break or get damaged, the only issue with the larger mounted ones are that they don't get bumped a lot, cause they might break from the background.

I can always expect great results on your perler bead works. Certainly up to par with the megaman and ninja gaiden perler bead replications that I enjoy so much. Ive never been able to create pixel images that are anything more than just modified original sprites from older games. Im impressed that you've done this by just looking at a pic of link from twilight princess.

DrOctoroc In reply to gfball84887 [2008-07-12 05:51:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, Ii'll admit I don't simply look at the picture. I basically trace the reference artwork as a black outline at the size I want the bead sprite to be, the I manually pixel in each color available in bead colors based on the colors in the original. After all that I trace the outline using the darkest available color of the shades within each shape, if that makes any sense...

metroidvictim [2008-07-12 03:19:59 +0000 UTC]

now how do you go about pixelizing artwork such as this? do you use a photoshop filter, or do you manually pixelize the art? just curious about your process...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DrOctoroc In reply to metroidvictim [2008-07-12 05:52:56 +0000 UTC]

I use the reference picture as an underlay while i pixel but it is all done by hand. Generally, I trace the main "shapes" with black, fill in those shapes and then re-trace the black using darker shades of the shap colors.
