Updated on 6/11/09I collected DeviantART user icons (avitars) to be used for photo mosaics and thought as they belong to you, I should share the collection. I converted the icons all into JPEG format as the app I use (metapixel) uses jpeg format. For animated GIF files, I sliced the image into all of it's frames and then removed the duplicate ones and ones that were very similar.
All of the images are square 50x50 images... which make them very easy to use with photomosaic software. If you want to give it a try, this is a good starting set of images. This should have been posted under "application data", but there wasn't a good category for photo mosaics.
There are a total of 81179 icons in the whole collection. It is broken up into 8 zip files to allow for posting here. The images are in a tree separated by the first letter of the user's name (i.e. my icon is in "d" directory for "drsparc"). So you will want to get all 8 parts.

Have fun with them. I used them for photo mosaics... but I would think a creative group like this could come up with a lot of uses for thousands of nice square images.

I can only be given credit for making one of the icons. You have to give credit to everyone here. That may limit the commercial use of this collection. I use it only for fun.
If you post something here, it would be nice to add a link to part of the collection so others can try it.
