You have quite an eye. This painting was done rather quickly...the point was to keep the sky and sea a very similar tone. So in retrospect there is some influence there yes. I am not sure what medium whistler used but I have to work quickly with watercolor. Maybe I will try a night painting like he was so good at next. Thanks for the comments!

Whistler used oil paint in a thin mysterious mixture he called his "soup". Unfortunately, it wasn't very stable and a lot of his nocturnes fell apart after a few years.
