Description
Doc Ock (C) Disney MarvelNO CRITIQUES
[link]
UPDATE: There used to be a no negative mark here. I don't mind comments. If you have something to say as a negative comment fine.
I ask for no critiques because I was working hard on this and it's the final stage. I am not considered shallow, though I'm not considered by another artist
Saying "It's raining." Does not help. Giving an umbrella when it rains does.
Why is it ok to think that someone has posted no critiques to violate that and post a negative one with no real help?
By all means BACK it up with freaking help if you choose to. I'm not asking you to say it's perfect. If I felt it was crap it would have never made it here but the scraps.
Either way, if his shoulder is off how is it off? Is it too left or right? How can I fix it? 'blue line over' to show what I'm missing is all.
I'm done saying sorry when people think they can say what's wrong and how to help me and think I have no right to be mad, or insult hard work as if I never studied anatomy. Not everyone uses the 8 heads. Some use 9 others 7 etc.
Update:
So, if you really really want to give one, note me instead.
****************
New York Skyline is not perfect, so those who live there might not see exact buildings. ^^ But I did my best.
One day I hope to get a Daily Deviation....one day.....
If it's too dark, I could try to lighten it up.
Referenced from New York city skylines on the web. Building graphics used by the PSP7.
Thanks to for the nose in the previous form. That and help from :icongeneraloctavius:
Took hours. 0o Uh, yeah.
UPDATE__> If you use a CRT screen make sure you turn up your contrast and brightness higher. If you use LED/LCD it should be just right.

Thank you. Yeah, it's been a while. I don't think you draw Ock any more.

I've thought about drawing him sometime this year. I still enjoy the character ^-^

the background looks... unnatural. for example, i'm seeing alot of unmodified gradients. i'm seeing alot of default textures, and i'm seeing alot of flat shades of grey. you also didn't clean up the original pencil lines, which makes the piece look sloppy. you did a nice effort on the 1 point perspective, but the few lines that don't match up are messing up the illusion.
Doc Ock looks alot better than what's behind him, though. however, i recommend you add waviness to his clothing; the flat color of his coat, seen next to Doc Ock's detailed torso, mess up the realism of the piece. I also recommend putting some detail into his hair. maybe a couple of visible strands. (the hair kinda looks like some kind of jelly.)
other than that, you're good to go. I hope you appreciate this piece of constructive criticism, and i bid you good day.

Firstly, I did post no critiques. But seeing as how you already posted ok.
Unnatural? I don't really live in New York, the cityscape wasn't my main goal. I was trying to do two things with his face and perspective. As to unmodified gradients? How would you propose I fix that?
Which lines am I missing to clean up?
Thanks. What lines?
His clothing is quite heavy. I'm not sure where I would add the waviness to. Any suggestions?
Lol jelly.
Thanks.

hehe disobedience is what i do best. xD (and art in general relies on critiques. if artistic praise is dessert, then critiques can be considered broccoli. and we can't have just desserts. )
and as far as many pieces are concerned, the background and foreground are both very important. if you don't want to bother with a background, don't draw one. (i do that. A LOT. ) also, i don't know which drawing program you use, but if it was me, i would've have manually shaded each building, based on light sources and such. more control over the overall appearance, and gives it a personal touch. maybe use a thin, grainy brush.
the pencil lines are most notable on Doc Ock's robot arms and the tops of some buildings. (you can see a graphite-like texture next to the computer drawn lines. that's how i knew.)
and some of the rooftop lines don't point towards the vanishing point. they're pretty notable.
and just put waviness on the clothes where you would think there is a bend in the fabric. (armpit areas, next to pockets, ect.)
and anytime.

Yeah.
Well, by hand? You mean digitally? I made him first and buildings as well without the computer. I scanned him in and colored him. I don't know all the details of how light changes from one window to the next. I did what I was able to to do. And some changes are so gradual, it seemed more reasonable to just let a gradient to do the job.
I see the lines now. Those are a pain to erase. I hate the new PSP x4. It won't let me get rid of speckles without destroying the whole background. If I want the original one, it won't let me keep it. This was the old psp one, but still with multiply sometimes flaws come through. XD I had to go through layer after layer to delete some icky stuff. Thanks.

yeah; manually means by hand. and, if you want, you can use a reference photo and draw your background and lighting based on that. (if you credit the original photographer.) and as tempting as it is to let the gradient do its job and move on, it doesn't often work for a realistic piece. (especially if the gradient exists without a texture on it.)of course, if you use a gradient as a base, then add shading and texture to the object drawn, (essentially, hiding the fact that you used a standard gradient) that could work.
also, another instance where a gradient can really come in handy when drawing the sky. iunno.

You're welcome.
Wish I could do as good as I did there. My art (though working hard for years) hasn't improved as much as I'd like. I want to draw from my mind.
Oh well. Maybe I' meant to draw cartoony.

You have great charactiture skills. I like what you did with each tentacle.
Each is good in its own way.

You hope to get a daily deviation? That's aiming a bit low isn't it? Don't you have other aspirations?
What will you do after you get your daily deviation?

But a daily deviation isn't much. I've never had one, but I signed up for this so I could share my type of art in groups of the same people.

To me it is. Not an "Oscar" award or "Peace prize" but makes me feel like it is top notch for my art.
That's nice of you.
I want to improve too and to help others as well. Never forget the little guy, those who felt they drew not as well as me exceed, even surpass me.

What your type of art anyway, it looks like a sketch mixed with computer editing.
I do 3D design and I learn new stuff on my programs every day, it's great.

DryBonesReborn In reply to Bigviggenschtein [2011-01-13 23:10:52 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that's basically it, sketched, sometimes I ink it then do it digitally. It hurts my hands to do colored pencil, though I can. Awesome.

Thank you.
Sadly, I guess I should have watched Ock's waking up at the hospital scene again to get his 'male anatomy' ok. I have been doing it, he's at an angle, and he is larger. I don't spend my time watching man's chest parts lol.

Ooh, I love the colors in this. And the background is pretty kick-ass. I always get really impatient with backgrounds. City backgrounds are the worst for me lolol.
I love Ock's eyes. XD
This is gonna sound weird to point out, but his nipples seem a LITTLE too small. lolol

DryBonesReborn In reply to Repto [2010-07-21 16:56:50 +0000 UTC]
Thanks.
Yeah, city day time ones are harder for me. Not all builings look the same and there is so many types of patterns I can use on the windows before they look too CGI.
^^ Thanks.
Eh, if they were bigger, I'd et people saying he's a girl. lol
And well it's either show or not show. I'd get complaints of him not having any. I cant please everyone. So, I said no critiques cuz nothing I can do.

I should try working on backgrounds more... bring myself up to par on that lmao
Aww I don't mean make the breastages bigger, I just mean that the nipples look.. like little dots or summat lol.
Just mentioning. D:

Enough. I worked my butt off on it. 0o I should put a disclaimer "no boobs that are crooked or penis crooked, or you will be labeld a perv' lol
0o That's disturbing. lol He has class, but I think Ock looks better. ^^ Though I don't go that road.
