Description
Please note that this poster is unofficial and not affiliated with the film in any way.The Matrix is one of my favourite sci-fi films and I got excited when MarcelisKhaldern and I decided on creating posters for the trilogy. I created this poster for the first film, he worked on the poster for The Matrix Reloaded which you can see here and we're both busy collaborating on the poster for the third and final film, The Matrix Revolutions.
As always, it was a jumble of random ideas flying about in my head, including a thought about peanut butter sandwiches and coffee which then led me to make just that. And then when I got back to my creative mulling, the first thing I thought was, "I should have added apricot jam." When I really got back to working on the poster, I started forming what I thought was an amazing idea. And then I stopped to admire my progress which ended up in the recycle bin. So I thought, "What's the first iconic moment that pops into my head when I think of The Matrix?". And then the rest was history. I got working on silhouettes right away and the colours and layout fell into place not long after. I added what I thought is a cool little design touch with a "Matrix Sunset" and that was a wrap.
I'm really proud of this and I hope you like it too.
Edited to add: I've uploaded a higher resolution of this on 27 December 2016. There are a few rough edges when inspected up close but perhaps sometime I'll upload a more polished, final version. This was never meant to be anything more than a simple fan project, hence the sloppiness. I still like it though.

Hi ! Awesome work ! Is it possible to print it in order to use it as a decoration poster in a webserie i'm going to film soon (and you will be of course credited in credits) ? It will be a french webserie broadcast for free on a youtube channel. One of the character is a movie fan and i would love to see this minimalist poster on a wall of his flat. Is this possible ? Thanks in advance for your answer !

Yes, you're welcome to print it and use it in your video since it's not being printed and then sold. And I appreciate that you will be crediting me for the poster. Please send me a link to the webseries when it's up.

I have been looking for a movie size poster for this very (first) "The Matrix" for a long time. I never liked the other ones, but this one is gorgeous. Please contact me on instantcarma at hotmail dot com if you have this in a higher resolution I could have, for personal use. I am willing to pay for your troubles.

The original is much larger in resolution but I always resize my work smaller. It also helps with loading times.
Thanks for your comment, though.

Are you able to share the larger resolution or not?

Very nice! I like the retro feel of your poster. I really like that extra touch of splitting the letters in some areas. What I really love is the color choices and the texture. The encoding forming the moon or sun was a very clever idea. Can you believe I still haven't seen this movie yet?

Thank you.
I can't take credit for the lettering though - it's just an imitation of the official Matrix logo.
You should really see this when you get a chance to. The concept is really interesting and even if you're not big on sci-fi, you should be able to find something in this movie that you love.
