China, Iran, Russia and Venezuela form the Alliance For Trade, Development, and Defense (ATDAD). On its face, the organization is similar to other multi-national trade and defense groups, but behind the scenes, ATDAD is used to secure secret alliances with nations, funnel advanced weapons into those nations, and train their militaries to use those weapons. The US grows concerned with ATDAD, despite not knowing its true intentions.

September 21 2017
China enters the stage as a Superpower, and uses its new status to bring an end to the conflict between North and South Korea. With China's aid, the Koreas become unified as one.

October 7 2017
China releases claims over Taiwan, Tibet and Xianjiang. Tibet and Xianjiang become independent nations. With these actions, and its involvement with unifying Korea, the international community praises China, and concerns over it and ATDAD begin to fade.

February 25 2026
Iran grows impatient with China, Russia and Venezuela over talks for a mutual strike against the US and its allies. Iran provides the Sword of Shia terrorist organization with a Soviet-era nuclear device, one of many unaccounted for nuclear devices from after the fall of the Soviet Union.

March 1 2026.
The nuclear device is detonated in Washington, DC by members of the Sword of Shia. The attack kills the President of the United States, as well as the Vice President, most of his cabinet, and the majority of Senators and Congressmen (the Senate and House were in session at the time of the attack). Immediately following the attack, the US, France, Great Britain, Israel and Iraq declare war on Iran. Iran's allies, Russia, China and Venezuela declare war on the US and its allies as a result.

In a scenario echoing the domino effect of war declarations during WW1, within two weeks of the attack, all nations of the world ally themselves to one side or the other.
