Description
This commission series was inspired by work Boogars drew for a different commissioner. The picture he drew depicted a woman wearing a hat and she was being mind controlled. The seed of an idea emerged. I wanted to make a “thinking cap”. I did some image research, but I didn’t fit anything that fit my vision. It wasn’t until I found something else that helped take this idea to the next level. Wig caps, as worn my dancers or dramatists, matched my idea for a design and with some modifications, were perfect. I developed a plot concept involving a new OC I created and four part series emerged. To his credit, Boogars was very open and supportive of my ideas. Collaborating with him has been very helpful to my writing process. I hope you drop by his gallery and share your compliments with him.

Title: Thinking Cap Part I
Background:
Mad science in action! This is a related sequel to Title: Wound Up Part I, dwwrider.deviantart.com/art/Wo… and Title: Wound Up Part II, dwwrider.deviantart.com/art/Wo…. The Dollmaker has developed a new device and Generic Female Secret Agent was volunteered to test its effectiveness.
Story:
“Please, no notes.” Generic Special Field Liaison asked in a firm voice to the visiting senior directors of the Agency. “This presentation involves the first viewing of a prototype kit. Due to its potential value, this is an observation only preview.” She waited for their pens to rest and their eyes to return attention to her eyes. “As previously discussed, operational security can be compromised by rogue elements during a mission. One of the more difficult elements to plan for is the presence of unregistered psychics. Psychics can tamper with the mind of the field operative, manipulate their perception, steal their knowledge, or even worse, turn them against us. Other than bringing our own psychics along, which is its own logistical nightmare, our options are limited to deal with that issue, until now.”
The lights dimmed and Generic Special Field Liaison opened the shutters covering the one way mirror. The audience saw Generic Female Secret Agent standing at attention in the demonstration room in a combat suit with standard armament. The slight shuttering of the mirror tipped her off that she was under observation. Her supervisor insisted that she participate in the demonstration as the guinea pig. She wasn’t happy with her orders, but, her opinion didn’t matter. Orders were orders. She still felt out of place with the wired, electronic contraption on her head. It made her look silly, but she kept her frown internal. This was an observation by the senior directors and her demeanor had to remain professional.
“The Agency has retained the services of a new consultant to address the situation of rogue psychics. The device on Generic Female Secret Agent’s head is called a ‘thinking cap’. It’s a device that addresses the psychic issue in a novel manner.” Generic Special Field Liaison cued the intercom and said, “Please read from the teleprompter.”
Generic Female Secret Agent read the scrolling script in front of her, despite her reservations on what she was actually saying. The script made no sense and was riddled with contradictory statements. She recited how she liked ice cream, pie, and cake. Then in the following sentence, she refuted what she previously liked. There were multiple variations of this pattern where she took a stance on one position, then reversed herself in the next statement. She maintained her composure, but there was a telling trace of annoyance in her voice as she continued to read from the teleprompter.
“The thinking cap takes a baseline reading of Generic Female Secret Agent’s brainwaves. It’s establishing measurements that determine what she believes to be true and what she believes to be false. It also identifies what her native thought patterns are for future comparison to expected foreign psychic intrusion and foreign implantation of thoughts and suggestions. The thinking cap reacts accordingly to outside interference. At this stage the electrodes take the measurements, the wires transmit the information, and the processor in the rear analyzes the data. Once a baseline is established, the thinking cap can be activated to fulfill its primary objective.”
