how to change the desktop icons. like yours

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dycesM In reply to eyc720 [2014-01-22 15:36:13 +0000 UTC]

It's usually something like:

>create a new shortcut on your desktop.

>right click and go to properties.

>there should be an option to change the icon.

>browse and select the new icon.

I can't give exact steps since I'm on my mobile now. Sorry about that mate.

What exactly do the icons in the middle do? Does the music one link to your music folder or winamp or something? I'm curious :b

dycesM In reply to Owltruism [2014-01-15 13:54:03 +0000 UTC]

The left one opens Chrome, the middle opens Explorer, and you're right about the music one, it opens Winamp. :>

This looks great,  but what's the vs?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dycesM In reply to Astro31345 [2014-01-14 01:35:55 +0000 UTC]

Its probably the default theme of windows 8.1 . Either that or a residue effect from trying out different themes. But more likely the default theme.

Awesome set up man, just done it myself. Thanks for the links. But how did you get the date to be black? I've not edited Rainmeter code before but I've just been playing about and I've got a pretty decent understanding of it now. Anyway, when I change the colour code it doesn't change at all. Could you possibly just past me the line of code you used?

dycesM In reply to Mellonote [2014-01-14 01:56:04 +0000 UTC]

Alright, I'll try to explain this.

****** is used to depict that something exists but can have different names and values.

Short Version: (Won't really teach you much, but will get the job done)

Open :

Rainmeter Folder -> Skins -> Elegance -> Variables -> Styles.ini

Add :

[blackwc]
StringAlign=Center
StringCase=None
StringStyle=bold
StringEffect=Shadow
FontEffectColor=0,0,0,50
FontColor=383838
FontFace=#LocalFontFace#
AntiAlias=1
ClipString=0

Save and exit.

Open :

Rainmeter Folder -> Skins -> Elegance -> Date -> Date_white1.ini

Find [MeterYear] and edit it to look like this:

[MeterYear]
MeasureName=MeasureDate
Meter=STRING
MeterStyle=blackwc
FontSize=30
X=135
Y=0

Save and exit.

Load Date_white1.ini from your rainmeter application. Now your date should be black.

Longer and a bit more explained version (Useful, if you are interested in editing rainmeter skins)

So once you open the .ini of the date, you scroll down and you see [MeterYear] , then you go under to check for anything that includes "style" or "color" (This goes for most rainmeter skins).

You'll find a line like "MeterStyle=******" , or "FontColor=******". If the line is FontColor, then you can directly edit the "*****" part to any color you want. (RGB or HEX).

      For RGB, the format is "Red Value , Green Value, Blue Value, Transparency Value(ranges from 0 -> transparent to 255 -> opaque).

      For HEX, its the hex code.

Now if the line is "MeterStyle=xxxxxx", you should scroll in .ini file, and look for a line that starts with something like "include= ******.ini" . This line basically says that the things inside the "******.ini" file is also used in this. So the next thing you want to do is open the ****.ini that is included. The path to this .ini is usually stated in the "include" statement.

     NOTE: A file may contain different included settings, so try and figure out which one is relevant for you. (In this case, since we are editing the style of a string, you want to open the .ini that is included under [Styles])

Once, the included .ini file is open, you want to look for the part of the code, that starts with whatever value is assigned to "MeterStyle=*******" in the .ini of the actual skin. (look at the top of this reply). In this segment, you find all the details of the string like font, color, size, etc. For you, since you want to edit the color, look for the line that goes like "FontColor=******". You can either put the value in HEX format or RGB format(look at the top of this reply to see their formats)

      NOTE: Personally, I create a new meterstyle if I want to change the looks and things, because I don't like to remove things for original programs. But, its totally upto you.

What theme is this? Looks nice.

dycesM In reply to SnoWbull [2014-01-14 01:35:09 +0000 UTC]

I can't really put the finger on it mate. I think its the default windows 8.1 theme, or its some sort of residue from trying out different themes.
