Description
I really hope this will be useful for some people. I know I'm not saying anything "new" but I've did my best to include some stuff that usually i don't read at some SAI or coloring tutorials. Thanks if you read it all. I know sometimes it might be boring, having so much text for a simple coloring step, but as english isn't my main language, I felt I had to be more specific with descriptions -anyways, sorry if my english isn't good enough or sounds like when a song is played over and ooooover again-
>3< Fullview of course, or you won't read anything hehehe.

OMAGAH I GOT A DD!!! THANKS TO EVERYONEEEE! *3* THIS IS MY FIRST DD AND I'M SOOOO HAPPY!

F.A.Q:
(updated 15/01/2012)
"WHERE CAN I GET SAI?"
[link] this is the official site, where you can get a free trial for one month, after that you must buy it..... yes, piracy DOES exist but i won't tell you where.
"CAN I DO THIS WITHOUT A TABLET?"
It's not easy, but yes, you can. The result might not be exactly the same but you can get a similar work. But you have to arrange the transparency and other features of each brush to achieve certain effects. How? Well, i don't know, i don't paint with my mouse for more than 3 years so i forgot how to do it.
"CAN I USE THIS WITH OTHER PROGRAMS?"
Yes, you can. Not everything, but at least the coloring technique.
"IS THERE SAI VERSION FOR MAC?"
No, but there are other good programs for MAC, you can try those.
"WHAT'S THE SUPR BUTTON?"
Sorry people, i don't own a laptop with the keyboard in english, so i think you have it as "delete"
"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR WATERCOLOR BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]
"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR REDJUICE BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]
"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR CHARCOAL BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]
The texture and the brush tip can be found at the download section of this description.
"WHITE LAYER AND DARK LAYER... I JUST DON'T GET IT"
[link] check this small pic to understand how to arrange them. Why do i use them? As you see, i paint and my color doesn't respect the lineart at first, so i erase later... to find every part that i wanna erase, instead looking at a white background i use the dark layer. Also, if the white layer is well done enough, i can select it, invert it and erase the parts that i don't need without using the eraser -which takes more time-
=A= well... as it's kinda hard to explain and stuff... I've made another pic to explain it as a step by step... Some of you might notice the good side of using both... if you don't it's fine... that step is optional anyway. [link]
Anyway a lot of people asks me this even if the answer is big, with examples and clear, so i won't reply to that question again.
"HOW CAN I MAKE MY OWN BRUSH"

Does the coloring steps 1-6 count towards fur colors too on an Anthro? I'm coloring over a line art and the fur is supposed to be black... How are you supposed to get a darker color than black? xD

I guess you'll have to change some of my tips to find your own way to color your artwork. Anyway you wan leave the lineart with the same color or even with a lighter color if that works for you.

Leave the line art as the same color of the fur?

DyMaraway In reply to KristopheB96 [2013-01-08 01:46:10 +0000 UTC]
o3o yes, that works too. Sometimes you can leave the lineart with only one color and if it works for your eyes and you feel good with the picture, then it's fine

This is amazingly helpful!!! I've been looking for a tutorial with this coloring style and this is just perfect!!! Thanks so much for sharing this!!!
But... Why all the white dots?

DyMaraway In reply to GertrudeFin [2013-01-07 00:27:31 +0000 UTC]
Thanks
The white dots are there because I like them. I'm more into a girlish kind of painting so many shojo artists add white dots to their drawings. There's no particular reason for that XD

I downloaded Sai a while back and have managed to only draw an eye because I use a regular mouse.
I was wondering if you did or if you used a writing pad. If you do use a writing pad, how well does it work and how much did yours cost?

I use a bamboo wacom pen tablet. The cost HERE is about...180 USD? well, it was a year ago but I know it's cheaper online -they rise the price here because they were kinda rare until one year ago-

I use to use a program that would let me draw over the drawing without using an ink tool or another layer. I would almost seem like the paint tool is going under the drawing and leaving it looking something like this [link] , it has the nice gritty pencil sketch right under the color and I want to see how I can do that with SAI and (just in case) Gimp.

I am thankful for this tutorial and glad I found it but....the airbrush-gradient produces different results for me. The airbrush acts more like the pen, so I can't get hair gradients. What am I doing wrong?

If the white layer is inside the lineart, how do you paint over the white layer and under the lineart?

Make a new layer between the lineart and the white layer.

Set the lineart layer's mode to Multiply, which will turn the white to alpha (transparent), but the black will remain. Then make a new layer underneath and do your coloring. Hope that helps.
