Description I really hope this will be useful for some people. I know I'm not saying anything "new" but I've did my best to include some stuff that usually i don't read at some SAI or coloring tutorials.

Thanks if you read it all. I know sometimes it might be boring, having so much text for a simple coloring step, but as english isn't my main language, I felt I had to be more specific with descriptions -anyways, sorry if my english isn't good enough or sounds like when a song is played over and ooooover again-

>3< Fullview of course, or you won't read anything hehehe.

OMAGAH I GOT A DD!!! THANKS TO EVERYONEEEE! *3* THIS IS MY FIRST DD AND I'M SOOOO HAPPY!

F.A.Q:
(updated 15/01/2012)

"WHERE CAN I GET SAI?"
[link] this is the official site, where you can get a free trial for one month, after that you must buy it..... yes, piracy DOES exist but i won't tell you where.

"CAN I DO THIS WITHOUT A TABLET?"
It's not easy, but yes, you can. The result might not be exactly the same but you can get a similar work. But you have to arrange the transparency and other features of each brush to achieve certain effects. How? Well, i don't know, i don't paint with my mouse for more than 3 years so i forgot how to do it.

"CAN I USE THIS WITH OTHER PROGRAMS?"
Yes, you can. Not everything, but at least the coloring technique.

"IS THERE SAI VERSION FOR MAC?"
No, but there are other good programs for MAC, you can try those.

"WHAT'S THE SUPR BUTTON?"
Sorry people, i don't own a laptop with the keyboard in english, so i think you have it as "delete"

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR WATERCOLOR BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR REDJUICE BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR CHARCOAL BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]
The texture and the brush tip can be found at the download section of this description.

"WHITE LAYER AND DARK LAYER... I JUST DON'T GET IT"
[link] check this small pic to understand how to arrange them. Why do i use them? As you see, i paint and my color doesn't respect the lineart at first, so i erase later... to find every part that i wanna erase, instead looking at a white background i use the dark layer. Also, if the white layer is well done enough, i can select it, invert it and erase the parts that i don't need without using the eraser -which takes more time-
=A= well... as it's kinda hard to explain and stuff... I've made another pic to explain it as a step by step... Some of you might notice the good side of using both... if you don't it's fine... that step is optional anyway. [link]

Anyway a lot of people asks me this even if the answer is big, with examples and clear, so i won't reply to that question again.

"HOW CAN I MAKE MY OWN BRUSH"

How do you draw such clean lines and color so neatly? I have a tablet and only use S-7 and my lines still look somewhat jagged. The line art looks absolutely perfect and every time you erased and colored in it looked so clean. It takes me forever to get a clean cut.

what do you mean when you say 'change the mode to additive'? I understand how to change the mode, but i can't seem to find 'additive'. is there another name for that??

Okay, so I've been wondering this for ages: how do you color inside the line art without darkening the line's without going over them? Is that even possible? It seems that you can either color over the line and make it darker or try not to color the line but then it always seems to be darker in spots. I posted an example if this'll help: [link] and I also had a few other questions like if it's possible to erase more than one layer at a time and about line art.

DyMaraway In reply to Minogirl01 [2012-08-09 22:28:15 +0000 UTC]

it totally makes sense!
your lineart will always get darker if you paint under it, so i suggest you to lock the lineart layer and paint it with a lighter color... maybe you could ask someone who does light colored linearts for a better advice, because mine are always darker.
I don't know the answer for the other question but I'll try to learn if it's possible

Minogirl01 In reply to DyMaraway [2012-08-09 22:33:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the answer!

When you say lock the lineart do you mean lock it and then still paint under the layer like normal?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DyMaraway In reply to Minogirl01 [2012-08-10 02:57:15 +0000 UTC]

select a layer and look for the option "preserve opacity" so you can paint ONLY at the places where there's something painted at that layer. In this case, you'll paint only the lineart. You paint on it at the same layer, not above or under it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Minogirl01 In reply to DyMaraway [2012-08-10 03:36:40 +0000 UTC]

Okay, now I know how to lock the line art what did you mean after that when you said paint only the lineart? What would be the point of that? I'm afraid I don't get what you mean.

Can i just say I love you right now? Honestly I've just been trying to do this on my own on SAI, learning little bits and pieces. But its also hard doing it with just a mouse. Do you have any tips for using just a mouse? Anything would be very helpful, thank you so much<3

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

shze In reply to Spontaneous-Acid [2012-08-11 23:33:33 +0000 UTC]

If I am using a mouse, I usually use the 'Select Paint' and 'Select Erase' tool often. I like using a big SelPaint brush and then going and fixing it with a small SelErase brush. If you're doing line work, then you could always use the shift button to make straight lines.

Spontaneous-Acid In reply to shze [2012-08-12 18:10:56 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhhhhh. I didn't know you could press shift for straight lines. Thats probably the only reason I like .Net better than SAI. Thats very helpful o: and what do you mean by Select Paint and Select Erase? o:

How on earth do you resize the canvas?
I recently made a pic, but it turned out waaay
to small, but I couldn't resize it without
diminishing the quality of the picture because
I didn't know how to resize a finished pic
before saving it on SAI.

Morbid-Gummibears In reply to ??? [2012-07-15 01:07:22 +0000 UTC]

I still don't get it, how do you paint over the lineart with out the lineart going away or being covered with the colour?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

shze In reply to Morbid-Gummibears [2012-08-11 23:35:38 +0000 UTC]

Generally, the line art should be the top layer.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

DyMaraway In reply to Morbid-Gummibears [2012-07-15 03:45:02 +0000 UTC]

you paint on another layer and change the mode or low the opacity of the layer on the top (where you are painting).... those are the only ways I know you can do it.

If you are painting a lineart, i suggest you to do it on a layer under the lineart's layer instead over.
