I think your idea is great, and I can see how a visit to the museum sparked the inspiration for this! I don't recall seeing anything like it--this work is simple yet memorable.
The colors and designs are very nice, and I like how they repeat themselves, it somehow resembles Pop Art. And you definitely have that element of surprise nailed down, I was really caught off guard when that butterfly suddenly moved! That motion is sure to bring some life to the piece, and is a nice contrast to all of it's pinned-down fellow insects.
I've got some suggestions for the execution though. The composition in itself is good, but I think the spacing between the butterflies is a bit too wide. I think you could have added a frame or background: nothing too distracting, but something to bring the piece together. Now I get a feeling that the butterflies are individual works, just presented in the same deviation. The piece doesn't really have a huge thumbnail appeal either: had it shown up on the dA page, I wouldn't have clicked it. On the part of the thumbnail: I intended this piece to be an eyecatcher on my profile page, but deviantART restricts the use of full view gif animations on our profile pages (except for the webcam widget, which doesn't link to the deviation page). Instead I opted for making a smaller animated version for preview, because that's the only way I could get it displayed.
