Description Well, I felt like sharing this, the first pony picture I have ever completed.  It was originally meant to be a motivational poster for my sister and mom, who were at the time going through difficult school/job obstacles, but it became more of a milestone to me.  Before this, I only drew little stick-figure humans trapped in 2D hieroglyphic poses.  My sister is the real artist in our family; she could run circles around anything I could ever dream of drawing.  She began to dislike MLP at the same time when I really wanted this image to exist.  I couldn’t ask her to make it and I did not understand the idea of “commissions” back then, so I told myself, “Heck with it!  I’ll just learn to draw and make it myself!”.

I must say the picture is pretty bad in hindsight, but after tedious weeks of penciling, erasing, and repeating, then inking, I felt like I had just finished painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling!  It was the first drawing I forced myself to be patient enough to finish.  I plan to re-draw it and digitally spice it up one day.

Thanks, I like to think it did help.  My mom and sister made it though their stuff with flying colors.  I’m not sure if this piece had an effect or if they even remember it, but I still have it near to keep me in check anyway if I ever think to quit halfway through a project if it gets too hard.

nice, pretty creative piece
i like the rifle, good idea with the reversed trigger, seems to work better for hooves. The uniform, mask and trench looks pretty good too, only thing that could be improved is the perspective of the enemy trench really, but nothing to worry about. Good job, it's nice to look at!

It reminds me of a song, "wo alle Straßen enden", for the general feel of it and all. It's very impacting and haunting imo, although not very motivational or positive lel

Thanks!
I’ll be honest, I actually did not notice the trigger until you mentioned it!  I must have been so concerned with the trigger’s size and the rifle’s orientation, that the reversal completely slipped by me!  But it may make more sense this way, as you say…

Ha, you are absolutely right about the perspective; if I remember correctly (this was back in 2013), I think the enemy trench was an afterthought.  Since I never colored or shaded the picture, it could look as though the soldiers were in a fenced enclosure instead of a trench.  So, I threw a distant trenchline into the corner to at least give the impression that they were in a trench as well.

Oof!  I looked that song up.  You’re right, it’s fitting, but not quite peppy.  It's good tho!

Yep, i thought how it's easier for a human to pull a trigger with a finger, but with an entire hoof and it's size, should be quicker to push it,... so you get a pass for you accident...

I see, it's still okay though, not completely out of perspective. Kind of looks like the main trench in is in a hill or something, overlooking the enemy below. You didn't plan to color it right?

Yeah, it's one of my favorite songs about ww1. The lyrics are hopeless but still detrmined, kind of messes with your head. I like how germans use a lot of tragedy on their military tunes, like the ironically instrumentally upbeat "Wir lagen vor Madagaskar" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzMMOp… )

Sir, thank you, sir!  *Salutes and runs for the hills*

Initially, I had no plans to color it.  Once I was done inking, I was scared to try anything that could mess it up, including crayons or colored pencils.  Soon I learned how to scan images, so I attempted to color it in MS Paint (big mistake).  Knowing what I know now about GIMP, I can probably give it a nice coloring, but at this stage it would probably serve better as a blueprint for a redo from scratch.

Holy moly, you must know a whole bunch of these songs!  These are so tragic, but lovely as well.  If not for the translation, I could have sworn this one was celebrating someone’s birthday!  XD

"accident", yea....

I see, and so i thought, cause as you said you wanted to put something else in the scene to give an impression of "yep, it's trench", i do that too heh. Usually i try to draw something else more when i don't color or shade my pics to give the perspective i want, i'm not really confident that people will get the scene i drew. It's kind of an irrational fear... and then i end up drawing too much extra lol
Not saying you put too much with the trench though, it looks alright with it. Really, if you re-draw and color it, give it some ominous lighting it would look pretty cool imo

Ah dude, i practically only listen to military marches these days... well, mostly because it's the only thing youtube recomends me haha
Here have another one, for the heck of it lol: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlqyBI…

Nice!  This is a great motivational drawing.    I like the story behind it and I am glad you decided to share it with us.

Aw, I appreciate that! ^^

I was worried maybe it was TMI.  Thanks for giving it a look!
