Description
Watch in HD---> [link]This is a informative video I made for my animation class about the twelve animation principles. Hopefully my example animations are helpful enough. DO NOT USE THIS VIDEO AS A MAIN SOURCE IT IS FOR QUICK REFERENCE ONLY! As you can see im not a master of the 12 principles myself and used very little traditional animation to create this video. But that is a paradox. Everything in the video created by myself except for the idea of the principles, that goes to the "10 old men". I hope this is helpful...

Ah yes, the 12 principles of animation. Is it alright if I link this to my university blog? This is what we are learning at the moment, and thisΒ film gives really good examples.

A'ight here's the deal,
I've always been interested by animation and animators and all, once even wanted to try it myself, just for fun.
Question is, for if I might want to try it anytime soon, what kind of programs and pure skills would you need you think? ^^
I was just wondering

The most important thing towards learning animation is knowing how to draw! There are plenty of animation programs to help you get started in animation, mind you they are different types of programs thus effecting the kind of animation you produce. There's Flash, AfterEffects, ToonBoom, and photoshop which are all mostly leaning towards handrawn and cartoony animatino. Then there's the CGI/3D with the likes of 3DS, Maya, Cinema 4D, AfterEffects and many more. Most important kind of animation to learn is with a pencil, paper, and light box my friend...Good Luck

If you're looking for 3Danimation, Blender is a free, open-source program that even professionals use.

Honestly, though its very educational, the examples aren't very good. It gives the wrong idea when you try to teach something, and cant really do it right, yourself. I really don't mean to offend, but..

No offense taken however there are several things you should understand...first I had to complete this video under a very strict deadline. secondly if you would have read the information on this deviation I clearly stated that this video should not be studied and is only for quick reference, as in simply something to look at. Finally I also stated that I am by no means a master of the 12 principles and after viewing some of your work i know you are not either....On a future date when I have the time and am more skillful I will remake this video with much clearer examples...

The absolute best animation book you can buy is "Animators Survival Kit"...That book has everything you need to know even beyond the principles!!...Your welcome

The text can be really difficult to read at times. Especially, right here. The background colors are washing out the text. In other places, there is not enough time to actually really all the text that is provided.

Im really sorry about that, I added a link to this HD version on youtube...This film is not meant to be studied in one play through but to be paused while your observing it, I kept it under 10 minutes for that purpose and so I would only have to upload 1 file to youtube...Sorry for the inconvenience

It's like getting ready to do an action. I'll use the example he chose, jumping.
Stand up and try to jump without going down first, it's physically impossible. It's kinda like the law "with every action there's an equal and opposite action".
Hope that clears it up for you =]
