Description
My second entry for an online Kaiju-based contest, Phorcys, an oceanic monster named after a Greek sea god. I'm still playing with the old-school kaiju idea, something that could be a suit in the old days. I had a blast basing his coloring on an Alaskan king crab, but wanted to keep him from being purely crustacean. I also wanted to show some of the early stages of his life cycle, as well as some head and claw variants and how they might change as he ages.Related content

Really strong cartoonish shape -- I mean that in the best way. It looks a lot more credible as an animal than a lot of kaiju.

I like it. Its very classic and "man in suit" in design. I especially love the head and claws a lot. The head, mainly because it is so none crab like. Its almost bug and mammal like. And I like the claws because they look like actually crab claws...and not just some cartoony things.

No the contest isn't on DA, it's being held by Helpful Bear workshop through their facebook page. The one-and-only Terryl Whitlatch is one of the judges.

I don't even know who Terry Whitlach is, but I already submitted the 3 kaiju I had that I though had the best chances. But they're pretty high sci-fi stuff. not sure if they dig that.

Terryl is one of the greatest creature designers ever, I learned so much from her work as a kid.
