We have received many beautiful submissions for our contest and it has been difficult to pick a winner. However, the wait is over! Here are the results:
Winner: moukitsu - "Antikythera"
"The Antikythera Mechanism is an ancient orrery much alike to the astronomical clock that we know today. It was used to predict astronomical positions for calendrical purposes.  Since it was also used to predict when can people see certain constellations, I used the famous constellation Andromeda, the chained princess, to also represent that the artifact is from the country Greece. The artifact was found on the Antikythera shipwreck thus explaining the sea theme, the pieces of wood, and the silhouette of a shipwreck at the background. You can also see the artifact which is composed of gears and is rusted while buried in the sand."

Runner up: @Toriily - "Spectrum"
"In 1672 Sir Isaac Newton discovered that white light contained a spectrum of vibrant coloured rays. All the colours of the rainbow, all the colours that paint our world."

Thank you to everyone that entered the contest! Physical prizes will be sent out when the books are printed.
THEME: Exploration & Discovery
DEADLINE: August 31

 Hello again.
This is the contest we've all been waiting for! Winners will get their art printed in the book and receive a copy of the artbook!

GUIDELINES

  • Topic ideas: Prompts list , Wikipedia - List of Discoveries , Biography Online - Greatest Achievements
    • Your chosen discovery is an inspiration. You do not necessarily have to draw the moment of discovery. For example, if your topic is the invention of the microscope, you might want to draw a small human running through microorganisms the size of elephants. However, please make sure that your blurb is able to clarify the connection between your artwork and your chosen discovery. If you're having trouble, we're here to help!

  • Dimensions: 6x9” or 12x9" + ¼” bleed - Specific pixel dimensions will be provided later

  • File format: PNG + PSD. CMYK preferred, RBG accepted.

We're looking for:
Integrated backgrounds: no simply patterned or single color backgrounds. Please check examples here for the style / level of detail we are looking for.
Original artwork: must be created for Infinite after June 15th

Refrain from:

Fanart of any kind (esp. With modern media): E.g. Disney
      Sketches/unfinished pictures
      Blood/Gore/PG13-or-over stuff
Non-Humans by themselves: E.g. Don’t draw mythical creatures found in a work of fiction without drawing the author
      Nudity of any kind
      Fictional discoveries/accomplishments
      Unintegrated Text

You must submit your work via email, to infiniteartbook@gmail.com. Please include the following details:

hi! i really love this initiative, and the theme is certainly original - i was wondering, if you're open to artist applications for the artbook, or have you already found the number of artists you're looking for? if the latter is the case, is it then correctly understood that the winners/runner-ups isn't 'secured' [i don't know how to phrase it properly haha] a spot in the book?
thank you in advance for the answer! :^)

Hello! Thank you for your comment!

We're not open to artist applications for the book, but our quota has not been fully reached yet. Although the winners and runner-ups for the contest are not guaranteed a spot in the artbook, they will be the first ones considered if we have free spots. That being said, the number of contest entries we may end up featuring in the book is also highly variable depending on the situation, so I would see the contest as a good bet for if you'd like to join the book.

Hopefully this answers your question! I'd love to see your entry for the contest. c:

thank you for the clarification-- i'd love to join this contest!
just one more question: do you have a list of the participating artists' chosen discoveries, so a contestant won't pick a discovery already in use?

The chosen discover list can be found at the bottom of the prompts document: sta.sh/0prfa9jcj1k
It's not fully updated yet because some of our artists either have not chosen a topic yet, or are wavering between a few.

If by any chance the contestant picks a discovery already illustrated, that would not hinder their performance in the contest. We are more than willing to take duplicates if the artwork can convey our theme well!
