What a beautiful little guy.
We just got in a wild trapped female Harris. Mom named her Kheeva. She's been kinda mistreated at her first home. They treated her like a red tail, so we're working on getting her socialized again. She doesn't make too much noise though, which kind of made me sad since when my mom was telling me about how they talk, I was expecting nonstop chattering at us. She only peeps when she goes to cast, and occasionally when she steps up onto the glove. Goodness is she awesome though. She's in molt so we're waiting to work with her too much. This one, has figured out that she freaks the dog out though. We're a little worried that if we start giving her stuff to do, she'll start stealing toys from the dog.

Yea, he was pretty, but he was always a bit odd. We handed him off to a falconry program run by a guy we know. He flew pretty well for a year, then just sort of refused to do anything for us at all. We think it had something to do with being spooked by a pig someone had while we were flying him one day.
Harris's can be funny. It's really awesome to hear a few of them talk to each other. Some people hate it when they talk, but I have always seen it as a natural thing for them since they are naturally more social than other birds of prey.

Oh man I recognized that as a Harris from a mile away! I miss working with the raptors at school (they were educational and had injuries that prevented release). The Harris Hawk was my favorite! Very fiesty girl, and such a personality to her

Harris's are definitely unique birds. They are a blast to work with.

Thank you so much! He's so fast, it's hard to keep him in the frame when he flies.

What did he do to them? Sit on them?

He had a lot of stress marks through his tail feathers when we got him because his parents didn't raise him very well. So during training he would sit back on them and some of them broke. His tail feathers look way better than Grace's first set of tail feathers though. She broke every singe one

When he was a baby, his feathers didn't grow in very well so they have some weak spots. He broke some of them while he was in training.

how did he broke them?.

He broke them by sitting back on his tail while eating food on the ground.

do most birds of prey do that?.

Not usually, but sometimes it happens. He had weak tail feathers, so they broke very easily.

They do help, yes. But he will be molting soon, so it's not a problem.
