Yeah I wasn't the biggest fan of season 2, due to it being somewhat confusing as well, btu the final fight was damn epic!

You might be interested to see the Japanese movie ending (only in Japanese)where there's an alternate fight scene where Simon get's into a fist fight with the Anti-Spiral King. Oh and a tip, there are extra scenes after the credits (the last episode), kind of depressing, but an ending is an ending.
