It's kinda a "I trace and re-work photomanips" thing - it's not meant to be truly original work, but rather turn rl collages into drawn images.
For one, because for some weird reason I personally prefer drawn over realistic when it comes to size content, and also, because even the best size manip tends to look just slightly "off" (shade, angle, resolution and whatnot) and by re-drawing it, I turn it into one coherent image.
I do make some changes here and there tho, and while I trace and then reference in the beginning, I "put the original away" once I have the basics down and just do the rest any way I like =u=,,

Idk, I don't think tracing is a bad thing because the point here isn't to show off artistic skill, but rather to produce nice g/t content, so I have no qualms about it.
The only rule I do have tho, is that you should only trace photographs, and never ever (other people's) drawings (that's a whole different thing imo).

Photomanips might be a grey area- I *could* probably pass it off as "fanart", but eh, that just seems dishonest. A collage is someone else's creative work, and if I trace it, I'm copying that, so I want people's permission before publishing those copies.
If roles were reversed, I know I'd want to be asked first, so there ^^

What a thorough explanation. I fully agree with your views and intents for photos and drawings. Plus, tracing is always good practice when not for profit. (I make sure to credit every reference I attempt to resemble/follow sans trace, though that's more of a habit than a need at this point.) It just irks me when people don't follow that logic in order to hype themselves for their "original" content, but you're obviously not doing that.

Haha, that's pretty perfect timing on your part - I can only ever take like two or three comms at a time (because I'm so slow), and I'm pretty close to finishing my current ones :'D
Seeing as you've got excellent taste, I'm VERY MUCH interested in doing some work for you =u=,,


My base rate is $50 per picture.
This might go up or down depending on complexity, and how much work I anticipate it to be (I try to be fair.)

I haven't decided how much to ask for a trace yet
(It's definitely easier for me to do, but the time and work I put in is pretty close to what I'd do for a normal picture. Tho a lot less stressful x'3)
It'll be lower than the base rate (part of the "work" is already done, after all) but apart from that, I'm open to suggestions of what you think might be fair.
(Assuming you're interested in getting T&Rs, of course ^^)

I've never commissioned anyone to do work for me before, so I had no idea what to expect as far as price was concerned.
As someone who used to do quite a bit of professional photography, I totally understand how much time and effort can go into a single image, so I certainly think that what you're asking for is very reasonable.
I may have to re-think my original idea however.  I'll send you a PM here in a bit.

Ya, commish prices come in a huge range, so you can never be sure what to expect. I'm kinda mid-level, considering what I offer - there are plenty who will charge less than I do, some of them way more skilled than I am too - while others charge a whole lot more, sometimes for less detailed work.
( I have a folder where I've saved some commission price sheets in my faves - >Click!< - but it's not really up to date. Still, it should give you a nice overview of comm pricing in general :') )
I'm a bit of an odd case because I don't offer sketches/lineart/simple stuff at a cheaper rate but only do complete, full-color images.
That's mainly because of the way I work - I can't really do decent quality images right of the bat, but do need to go over stuff over and over again, making small corrections over time, until a horrid sketch turns into a decent image x')

But like I said, depending on what it is you'd like done, I'm open to discussion ^^

(I've gotten away without one so far, but maybe I should do a commish price/explanation sheet sometime)

It's just as much work, and the way I do it, it is just as challenging/fun as doing a normal drawing, but all the stress from trying not to screw up anatomy and angle is gone.

It feels just a little magical too. As paradox as it may sound, when turned into a drawing, the whole scene seems so much more "real" to me than the collage does.
(Btw- If there's ever anything you want redrawn, just say the word :')  )

Ha, never mind my specific preferences- I can usually find something that appeals to me (plus, deviating from 'my usual' can be very refreshing).
(I mean, come on - I'm kinda arachnophobic and I still managed to totally adore working on a picture featuring humongous SPIDER crawling over a guy - don't worry about me)

I'd like to do something you'd like to see - regardless of anyone else's tastes.
(and you're not asking, I'm offering. There's a difference ;'3  )
