Description
Edit: touched up eyes based on feedbackThis deviation is the result of one of *Grondhammar 's suggestions in response to my desperate plea for help. ([link] ) His first thought was to create custom pencil erasers. I really had no direction to take with it, but as soon as I had the idea of using birds as erasers, I loved the thought of having a shot of real birds in the background. I'm a sucker for a quirky twist that makes you look twice at something...so here's the result.
I really, REALLY appreciate the suggestion because this is definitely not something I would think to do on my own. But his ideas are a photomanipulating dream, so I plan to do at least one of his other ideas, too. Not to mention that having to create something based on someone else's concept is great practice.
I have to admit, this was a challenging task because I wanted to get the birds to look "fake" like erasers, but without losing too many details and looking too sketchy compared to the pencils. And because I ended up doing this strictly on my home machine, Photoshop 6 was killing me!! As compared to CS 2 on my work machine, the blur, burn, and other tools on version 6 are virtually worthless! So...I'm sure I could have gotten a better result with the newer program, but...
What do you think?

hehehehe! Ah it's good to see you ran with this. Great job! The colours are so wild, that's fun to see, and I love the background.
Interesting challenge, the fake look. I hadn't thought of that when I suggested it. The only thing I can think of that would add to this would be to go in close and take the highlights out of their eyes, so they look more matte.
Very fun, thanks for posting this up!

Well, thank YOU. Yes, I kept thinking the colors reminded me of a Caribbean beach scene which is verrrrry unlike my style, so I like that it was new for me.
Good suggestion about the eyes: I edited them accordingly. I originally thought that even glass eyes will get a highlight, but you're right--taking it out really does add to the unreal effect. Thank you!
