But I like it!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to altergromit [2011-03-10 20:02:59 +0000 UTC]

Now - the red and white thing certainly is Mark Twain's mark. Two fathoms of water below the keel of the boat, that was the call of the river pilots. this is where Samuel Langhorne Clemens found his pseudonym from when he was working as a pilot on the mississippi river himself ...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to djailledie [2010-09-07 19:22:47 +0000 UTC]

Ahhw - more difficult
Mark Twain was the signal from the plumb line for the Mississippi pilots when they reached 2 fathoms of water
Samuel Langhorne Clemens got his pen name from this term.
And on this boat I also saw some depth marks. So I had this association.

It's the truth. And with me it doesn't happen only when I try to express my admiration for beautiful, special images... There are so many words and sometimes they don't seem enough. Or perhaps we are unable to use them.
(don't be modest, I'm sure you know the English language very well!)
