Death Battles did this. The results are in; Cloud's over reliance on brute force stood no chance against Link's ability to figure out a foe's weakness. Yikes.

At the risk of sounding butthurt, I have to disagree on that outcome. Cloud could take machine gun fire and missiles to the face with little problem. And they gave Link his best equipment, but only gave cloud low to mid tier stuff. Not to mention that clouds raw strength should have broken link's arm.

Cloud wouldn't have been able to break his arms gauntlets. And you call the Omni-slash low to mid tier?

In terms of equipment. I meant.

The problem is, Link is too strategic for Cloud. His weapons are unorthodox, and his analytical battle style would have won out. Plus, the Hylian Shield is unbreakable by any means. I mean, I can see why you disagree, but Link would have still won. It just would've been a lot closer.

Calling Link 'strategic' is a bit a stretch. All the boss battles boil down to 'stab glowing part' with variations in boss, don't get me wrong, I love Zelda games more than I love FF7, but there is a point where strength and speed just become more than courage and skill can handle.

Link analyzes foes to determine their weak points. He also fought an entire army single-handedly and came out unscathed. Conclusion? LINK IS A BOSS.

Still. Link lived through THE FLIPPING OMNISLASH. But let's focus on a different potential fight. Steve? from Minecraft VS Link. I'm voting Steve?, you?

gellvar In reply to RobbieDaBoo [2012-11-07 02:03:25 +0000 UTC]
I think that's where he should have died, surviving a series of hits from the Buster sword at multiple angles? in midair? that was pushing it.
As for Steve? Steve has way better armor, but no skill (his tactics consist of 'hit it till it dies') the problem is that steve presumably does not have the superhuman physique to back it up. Steve also has better explosives. And no magic. So it kinda evens out I would think.

Z-targeting. But I am somewhat upset that they included that as It seems more like a game feature then a skill.

Well, the in-game excuse for Z-targeting was Navi. I dont remember much about the battle, though.

Same here. And Z-targeting can be subverted if the thing is moving fast enough right?

Not very sure if that counts, alchemy technically isn't magic, as for enchanting... I have never played minecraft.

Well, enchantment is a branch of magic, usually used to enhance something by giving it new properties(Fire Aspect, for example), improving old ones or some kind of combo.

Eh...Link has the Master sword. Emphasis on MASTER. And the Triforce of Courage. And bombs. And a bow. And a boomerang. And a fire rod. And an ice rod. And a whip. And...well, need I go on?

I must create a battle scenario for this one. Please take bets.
It was cold. The elfin warrior sat silently on his horse, his nose turned up to the gray sky Epona pawed the frozen ground. He looks down now, and turns the horse aside from the path it had been straying from. There are no words between horse and master: rather, they think and act as one, no words needed between the two callous companions.
His breath is visible now, but Link doesn't seem to care, nor does the cold seem to affect him. However, Epona starts shivering, so he immediately looks for somewhere warm and dry.
And then he sees it. A small stable sorrounded by dead trees and giant, yellow bird like creatures are pacing around, plucking at the frozen ground with sharp beaks.
Despite the birds' fearsome appearence, Link marches straight onwards with Epona. The chocobos look up in mild concern, but then return to their dull duty. He reaches the barn gates, and immediately tries opening it, but to his disappointment it seems to be locked.
"Kupo!" a voice cries out from one of the dead trees, and the green-garbed swordsman turns to find a small, white thing with bat wings hovering above the tree. "You must pay before you can put your....kupo in the barn, kupo! Don't you know that, kupo!"
The words seem to have no affect on Link as he turns and ignores the moogle, drawing his blade now as he prepares to hack down the door. Shrieking in alarm, the moogle raises its hands and cries for help.
As if by magic, a portal appears in the sky, and a figure with a red cloak and one demonic wing protruding from his shoulder is shot down from the portal. Immediately he draws the massive blade at his side, and he advances upon the green garbed figure.
Link turns just in time to deflect a blow from cloud's bandaged buster sword, and gets sent flying into the barn. "Oooh, your in for it now, kupo!" the moogle says, gleefully taking a spot on the dead tree as link stands up and grabs his shield, looking Cloud in the eyes with a warrior's gaze.
(End of part 1. Bets?)

Got dang it. . . i was drawing a link/cloud battle and i was searching for refrences. . . and i found this. Sigh. . . now my idea isnt original anymore. But the only difference is that the fight is on a supersmash brawls stage.

I played through 4 Zelda games, so I am a huge fan of Link. But I have to disagree with you. Yes, Link has much greater skill, and a varied arsenal. But he lacks a degree of power necessary to kill a Final Fantasy character. (these being the guys who take machine gun fire like rain and ignore missiles to the face.)
