Description This was actually my earliest and most minimalistic piece to date, and still one of my favorites, as it is something that holds a very deep expression for me.

I decided to polish it just a tad bit more and added some very slight details, and came up with a new title for it.

WOW! So simple, but the way the colors are done, gradients, and that shadow... truly a beautiful picture. Nice one

great illustration. It reminds me of my fav movie lawrence of arabia, in fact that was the first thing i thought of when i saw it. I'm a sucker for desert stuff like that.

Quite possibly the best illustration I've seen on all deviantART. Absolutely amazing. I was hoping you could send me a larger copy (something wallpaper sized, ie: 1024 or 1280)? You have great taste in art! Keep up the fantastic work.

Thanks a bunch! I thought about adding more detail, but in the end a few other peeps and I thought the minimalism had a lot more impact.

Duck-Star [2005-04-17 13:31:28 +0000 UTC]

This is a great piece and is certainly minimal, there is so little in its construction but appears like there is lots of detail. The minuteness of the camel and rider lends strength to a vast desert environment.

Good work...

Definately very cool, man Wow... I never have liked minimalism in the past, but I must say that this one is actually very schweet! Heh.... Another farking masterpiece... I hate you and your creative... creativeness... Blech

Will do, mon capitane... Heh... Well, do you recommend that I download a pirated version of illustrator to test out this vector thing?

ekster In reply to bumpinthenight [2005-03-20 10:00:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, officially I would have to say *gasp* But there's a free trial on Adobe's site that lets you try it for 30 days! But heh... yes, definitely get your hands on it

bumpinthenight In reply to ekster [2005-03-20 19:22:07 +0000 UTC]

heh... I will... and cant you actually go into the settings file of the program and delete the (damn... cant remember the file extention) file that allows you to have a free 30 day trial so you keep on renewing your 30 day trial? I dunno... I'll go check it out

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ekster In reply to bumpinthenight [2005-03-21 04:07:56 +0000 UTC]

why yes I've heard ot that method too.... hehe. There's a lot of different ways to make it work free for an extended time for you, but in the spirit of education, be free to do whatever you need Besides, unless you were a professional designer or run a business that uses it, dinking around with a free and personal copy is alright

blindfive [2005-03-16 19:45:48 +0000 UTC]

Wonderful illustration. I love the minimalness of this piece.

The only thing I would change would be to make the gradient in the shadow more of a blend... The straight line between the lighter purple and the darker purple is a little distracting...

Otherwise very nice work

P.

ekster In reply to SmashR [2005-03-16 04:11:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much! Well the story goes, I was at a bookstore and I was looking at the beautiful photographs in the travel section, and all these desert scenes really inspired me and I developed an image in my mind. So when I got back home, I created it based on what I saw
