His name is also a pun on the computer worm "Code Red"

He's okay with Team Sakura and is in good terms with them, he comes to the aid of his allies and other heroes in a similar vain to E-123 Omega and the main Sonic characters.

The reason why R-3D is a cyborg is because he tries so hard to find himself an upgrade. He was usually Ama Heart(break)'s bodyguard, but was soon pushed aside and betrayed by her, and has seeked vengeance against her to this vary day.
