Description
A Bridge Of ProgressThe West Gate Bridge, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
The looming structure of the West Gate Bridge overshadows a tranquil, polluted spot of the natural world underneath it.
Is this what we call 'progress'?
Shot under the West Gate Bridge, from Stony Creek Backwash park, in the western suburbs of Melbourne at midday.
Polariser used.

Ah, but I missed the part about the pollution, and the irony of the "progress"... In this case the image is even better than I first thought, as the overall darkness affects the mood of the image (making it sad, bleak, harsh, industrial, eetc...) as well as allude to the "dark" murky water, the "dark side" etc... though ideally some obvious sign of pollution would be nice, but would that be too much? maybe too obvious? also, not possible clearly...
but the description is a valid part of the piece... I wish they had more of them at art museums and stuf... not just the history of the piece, but what it means from the artist... though some pieces its nice to come up with your own meanings... lol i really use "..." a lot... see! there i go again!!!

Perfect weather! You're able to get the exposure dark enough to both capture the amazing cloud texture, as well as the foreground... which isn't TOO dark (though perhaps in a real darkroom i'd try dodging it a big, but i suck at dodging in photoshop ) anyways, the reflections are what really make this image special... the lines of the bridge coming together from the bottom and the top, and then the bridge itself fading and zigzagging off to the side. This also nicely ties the image with the title (and concept) of moving forward, presumably towards "progress"...
Nice work

The dodging/darkening you did to the sky isn't very even, the brushtrokes are easily visible because the edges near the bridge are still light.
I'm sorry if I'm blunt, I'm just trying to be helpful. The photo itself is great, just needs a more detailed darkening, that's all
I'm a sucker for dark tones

i have to say, this is a FANTASTIC shot! it's colour is just amazing (i love polarisers), and the angle of the bridge and the reflections over the water have been captured so well. you've really brought out your thoughts here about progress, it's such a shame that we do this to our wonderful country.. great photo though, just amazing! instant (and if it were a print, i'd buy it!).
