I drew this after I listened to the new BjΓΆrk song, "Earth Intruders". Though the song seems to have a more environmental message, I had this idea and loved it.I'm pleased with it because, unlike many things I do, it came out just as I'd pictured it.
If you haven't heard the song, you should. It specifically goes with the heavy, low drum beat and stomping footsteps.

Wow, I'm sorry I couldn't get to this picture soomer and I'm also surprised that this hasn't gotten more feedback, because I think it's wonderful! From the dirt on the people's faces to the cracks in the ground to the steely blankness of the droid-type people, everything is perfect! It really invites interpretation to this, since to the people, the huge things seem to be a menace, but they just seem to be moving along, doing what they were meant to do...sort of like manifest destiny. I don't know, just something about the way they seem to march on steadily no matter what they destroy.
This makes me very curious about that song now. I think I will go and see if I can find it!

Oooh, good insight on manifest destiny. I suppose I wanted to do something with a political message as well as ecological, but mostly I just wanted to draw big spooky aliens.

Thanks, glad you like it! Yeah, I like a lot of her stuff. She has such an adorable growly little voice, and she really knows how to take bizarre and make it fabulous.

Who says they're the bad guys? To the cultures we've invaded by force, right down to the trees and animals, we've been the bad guys.
And they're less like reptiles and more like... pods. Like from The Dark Crystal. Sorta.
