Beautiful, I don't know anything about glazes but the red on blue reminds me of blue glass that oxidises in the torch flame I suppose it's very similar!

Ceramic glazes is essentially glass, made up the same materials, minerals etc. so the process is very similar.Β Copper created the red in this case. Β Copper turns blue when it oxidizes, but here it's red because the oxygen in the kiln was reduced -so the process was basically reversed.

I thought so! I know that the oxygen supply in the glass blowing torch can be turned up and down, but I didn't know that you could do that in a kiln, too, and create a reducing environment to get the red colour. Interesting!

Reduction cone 10. They were in the top of a large (5ft) kiln so they might have gotten close to cone 11. The purple would not have the deep rich color in oxidation, it would actually be close to a flat blue.

colorwise of my mugs they are my favorite. I think I'm surprised by them more than anything else. That deep purple red is usually a boring flat color that I don't like to use by itself. And I love bright and rich colors so does it surprise you that I like these so much?
