Edit: Blurred the background a bit
Okay...I know..I know I have not uploaded a manip in literally ages. I have been working on this for like months! xD Actually about 1.5 months to be exactish...lol.
Ok so I really do like this I just wish I wasn't so bad at lighting.
I have worked forever on that mane and if Angel would not have helped me with it I wold never have finished it.
I like the little symbol on the horse.
I know you guys are probably thinking the background is to contrasted but I really do love it that way and when it turns out as a layout it will look better

I like the whole theme of this a lot. The whole bluey-ness (is that a word?) is really cool. I would suggest a few things:
1)Lighting:
Play around with the Color curves a bit. Also, I find that, for lighting, if you desaturate (black and white), burn, and add a bit of color, it really helps, although this may vary depending on what editing software you use.
2)Outlining:
It took me a few seconds to find the horse in the manip. Right now, the focal point is pretty much the big log in the, while the horse is more of a background item. I would again play around with lighting to make the horse pop out a bit more.
Other than that, great work!

I have read what you expected from us as an audience, so I can help you without pointing out something you already know. The contrast to me is fine, in fact it almost feels abstract because of the the black framing around your piece. Plus I love the blues, it has a monochromatic style that expresses this moody scene with the horse, I feel a subtle narration, and I think blue was a perfect choice to express it. If I can suggest one technical detail to make it even stronger is to add soft shades of blue on the top so I can have a greater sense of the environment, I feel like there is a little bit too much weight on top. Overall, the your concept was clever, and it has an great sense of atmosphere that I can feel from this.
