What's your process for vectors like this?

I search for (multiple) pictures that I use as a reference,than I start to draw lines in illustrator, fill them up with colors, and add more lines till i'm satisfied about the looks
after that i'm going to search for a background (mostly forest or flowerfields), blur it very very much until it looks like a gradient, or make the gradient myself in photoshop.Β
