Description
This illustration was designed for one of my clients to advertise a special night of teaching on Marriage and why it is so sacred. They posted the sermon on their website so I decided to listen to it. I was so impressed with how thorough and informative it was that I decided to take down notes and share it with you lovely people. My notes are below. You can watch the sermon here: www.revival.tv/sermons/topical...
Intro - The Authority of Scripture
Everyone has a source of authority by which they determine right and wrong. That source of authority might be their own intellect, experiences, parents, religious traditions, etc. As Christians our source of authority is scripture (not to say that we can't use intellect, etc.).
1. The creation of God - Genesis 1:26
2. Commitment/covenant between man & woman - Genesis 2:24-25, Matthew 19:5, Ephesians 5:31
God's design for marriage:
(Marriage is under attack because it reflects the nature of God.)
3. Control of sexual desires: 2 Corinthians 7:1-5
Polygamy (Genesis 4), Adultery (Gen. 16), Homosexuality (Gen. 19), Fornication (Gen. 34), Rape (Gen. 34), Incest (Gen. 38), Prostitution (Gen. 38).
4. The care of children
This link will take you to a secular (non-Christian) report done by the Witherspoon Institute on Marriage and how it effects our culture: winst.org/wp-content/uploads/W...
5. The comparison to Christ and the church: Ephesians 5:32-22

This is just lovely and spot-on! It brings on a serious and wonderful emotion witnessing this wisely made artwork and reading said five reasons as the basis for the work. I really find little to no issue with this piece, no doubt it has style. The colors are well-balanced and the exaggerated details, the patterns, and mixed fonts are like candy to the eye and it speaks of a creative mind with a great God in their heart. Amazing, thoughtful, and beautiful are the correct words to describe this, I would say! Keep up the great work, dear! God Bless!

What do you say to a Christian who has lost faith in marriage and thinks it is only a piece of paper?

Emberblue In reply to TheMeekWarrior [2015-11-15 21:11:19 +0000 UTC]
I would say that I'm very sorry to hear that. I would ask the person why they lost faith in marriage. Get to the root of the issue. If the person is a Christian who has a real relationship with God and believes what the Bible says, then I would direct them to look at the beginning of the book of Genesis where God set the prototype for marriage, I would show them what Jesus said about marriage, and every scripture that I could find that commented on that.
The fact that American states issue marriage licenses does make things a bit more confusing I guess. God designed marriage as a covenant (I can elaborate on that if needed) not a contract. In my opinion, Christians can be married in God's sight, even though they don't have a legal document from the state they live in. However, because we are law-abiding citizens, and we want the legal benefits, we also go to the state and apply for a marriage license.
It is important to remember that the piece of paper, and the covenant made between the man and woman and God, are two very separate and different things.
Marriage licenses have provided many benefits. But they also made it much easier to dissolve marriages because it redefined marriage in people's minds to a simple piece of paper instead of a life-long commitment. I don't know the whole history of marriage, and I don't exactly know what to tell people that are not "religious". I don't claim to be a know-it-all on the subject. But I'm willing to share the things that I do know.

Irrelevant. The deviation only applies to the people of a specific religious sect not the general human population.
Mythology should not be used to dictate how people live their lives.

I am entitled to my views just as you are entitled to your views. That is the beauty of America and freedom.
Please note, the "Intro" section at the top is applying this to Christians.
This deviation includes a link to a report done by Witherspoon Institute on Marriage and how it effects our culture. It is non-religious research/statistics. You can disagree with my religious views, but I hope you can at least acknowledge and respect statistics.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I appreciate you taking the time to say that. I believe that love and respect is how Jesus would want us to treat all people. And because He has changed my heart I find myself doing what He would do. I also thoroughly enjoy discussion with people.
Merry Christmas! (early)

"Children need their biological father and mother to thrive best."
So are you saying that children with adoptive parents aren't going to do as well as children with their biological parents? That's ridiculous.

Ikr! People are so ridiculous! They're also saying being a single parent isn't right also.
They're like "a child needs they're biological mother and father" and I'm always like "I've had friends that were raised by single moms and dads they turned out just fine. People don't think at all before they speak.

That is not what this deviation is about, it is about marriage. Please re-read the section about children, it says that our culture is experiencing problems because of divorce and cohabitation. And there is a link to a report on research how marriage effects our culture.

Emberblue In reply to Apple-Rose [2015-02-28 21:47:01 +0000 UTC]
Right. It is about how marriage effects children - divorce and cohabitation is not as good for children as living with their parents, and there is an article with research to support it.

Marriage is between a man and a woman, and instituted by God. That is an essential part of what makes marriage sacred.

well, thats your definition. Legally, the marriage definition for my country is two consenting parties of age of any gender.
You can have your definition, but I am still allowed the right to marry who I love.

Pellchinnn In reply to Dylan-the-dude [2016-04-26 06:25:31 +0000 UTC]
This is GOD's definition! He who created the world and man and woman as distinct beautiful creatures. This isn't something I made up. Whoever you choose to "marry", if it doesn't consist of one man and one woman, then it's not a real marriage, because only God constituted the very first marriage and defined it for the future. We can all and should all love each other, but there's a reason He made us male and female, and such things as marriage and intercourse is made, intended, and allowed only for these. Using this institution in any other way is an egoistic abuse of this divinely given gift and an insult to the very good and wise God that made you and loves you. We don't want to see a society where everybody does what they want for themselves, for that will be a living nightmare, and ignoring God's Word is a big step in the right direction. We don't want Hell on Earth, nor do we want to end up in the real Hell. This can all be prevented by listening to and respecting God's precious and holy Word which He so graciously provided to us as a means of salvation and opportunity to experience true glory and peace in a world with never-ending love.

My point is that every step away from God (including the acceptance and practice of such "gay marriage") will create a hell on Earth (but it cannot be compared to the real thing). Whether we are "doing fine" or not depends on what you mean. As far as I'm and God are concerned, things are only getting worse and will keep doing so until the Lord returns and restores the Earth once and for all. I hope you find someone that respects you and treats you well, dear!

you can have your religious views all you want, but not everyone believes in your God. Not everyone believes in the same thing.
Therefore, your point only applies to a very select audience.
What if someone believes God thinks differently?
What if someone doesn't believe in God at all?
Whether or not marriage is endorsed by God one way or another is relative only to the person and what they believe.

God won't go away no matter how much you reject Him, and that's both the beauty and danger of all of this. Neither will the coming final judgment day go away. My point applies to everyone, because we all exist in the same reality. We can't be so careless of these things, for they are of great importance. If not realized now, then surely or sadly later. You speak of relativism/moral-relativism - that is exactly the main ingredient for how to make a hell on Earth, in a careless world where anything goes and where no view is better or more true than another except in the mind of someone who disagrees because of their own view. You can justify anything in that world of the wicked, and truly believe me when I say that you do NOT want to live within such a world. Say that you do, and help birth this dark world, and you will surely regret what you had done and said - even more so when you at the end of your time stands before God and you will be held accountable to Him. However, there is still time for forgiveness. He died for you and everybody so that we could enjoy forgiveness and paradise on a new Earth for eternity. So much He loves us. Don't waste your time, please. I almost did. Please.

...but then you have the case of Britney Spears and her 55 hour marriage, which was still considered valid and 'sacred'...
And then that one man who married a blow up doll...
