Description
This is a CD cover for a 4 part teaching series on the book of Jonah. I wanted to do something different than the typical whale jumping out of the ocean picture. This almost has a Disney feel to it and I like that. It is simple, but was alot of fun. I found myself giggeling while I was making it.This was created in Photoshop. The photo of the boat and fish are from shutterstock.com. The man and the whale are painted by myself.
The back of the CD cover is the same as the front, and here is the content:
IS YOUR LIFE IN TURMOIL?
COULD IT BE YOU ARE RUNNING FROM GOD?
Jonah is a historical book, which deals with a real person, in a real setting. In the Blessings of Revival series, Pastor Greg Glory takes a look at Jonah’s reaction to a difficult assignment by God and the lessons he learned along the way which apply to all of us.
“The men of Nineveh will rise in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.” ~ Matthew 12:41
This four part series includes:
• Chapter 1 - Jonah’s Protest
• Chapter 2 - Jonah’s Prayer
• Chapter 3 - Jonah’s Preaching
• Chapter 4 - Jonah’s Problem

Thanks so much for the compliment. I don't think the CD is available anymore. I could give you a copy of the image without the watermark if you wanted to have it.

I wonder was it a whale or a gaint fish that ate Jonah?

My best guess is to look at the original language used. In Jonah 1:17 the definition for the Hebrew word used is "fish". In Matthew 12:40 the definition of the greek word used is "A sea monster, whale, huge fish".
Whale or fish, I'm not sure that it matters either way. What we do know is that either way it was a miraculous work of God.

looks like we will never know the truth.
yes its a miracle and also do you find it strange that some greek mythlogical story's and fairy tails are similar like Jonah and the Whale and Pinochio for example.

I don't find it strange that other cultures have similar stories. It is further proof that the story is true. For example, there are multiple cultures that have a story of a world-wide flood. That makes it even more believable that a world-wide flood really happened.

I don't know, maybe. Usually stories are inspired by something. No one has an idea that is entirely original, they always are influenced by something that they have seen or heard before.
But Jonah is an actual event that really happened. It's actual history, not just a story.

based on facts yes I know.
of course it is not just a story.
also speaking of Whales did you hear Ron Howard is making a movie base on a true story that inspired Herman Mellvile to write Moby Dick.

Great art! I just love the water effects, great job man!
I've heard somewhere that back in the times of Jonah there was a constellation of a large animal (don't remember which one exactly), and traveling under it was known as "being in the belly of the beast".
After the ship crew threw Jonah overboard, he was "eaten alive" by the sea the darkness in "the belly of the beast", the pitch black sky dotted with stars and swimming in the sea for three days (most likely held a float by a piece of wood broken from the ship when the storms almost destroyed it). After being stuck at sea for three days, Jonah repented and gave in to the Lord, and He shifted the sea and the waves "spat him out on the beach", where Jonah was to travel to Nineveh afterwards.
I personally think that makes much more sense then a giant sea monster or whale swallowing a man alive and he staying alive after three days or so.

Thanks so much!
Interesting idea. It's possible I suppose. But I still think it was a literal story. God is all powerful and capable of doing miracles. If God can create the entire universe out of nothing, if God can make a donkey speak, if He can let 3 men stand in a furnace of fire and not get burned, if He can raise people from the dead, then I think God is able to also accomplish the miracle in the story of Jonah.
An interesting fact that I read about this story is that the people of Nineveh worshiped a God who was white. I don't remember the details. But I mean white as in the color of his appearance, not ethnicity. Anyways, if Jonah was in a whale's stomach for 3 days the stomach acid would bleach his skin white. So when Jonah was barfed up on the land and looked white, the people of Nineveh really wanted to listen to what he had to say, lol!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

One could have also easily been sun bleached, pruned, and Jonah's lower half slowly consumed by sea creatres.
And you are welcome!

Very cool. I love the way the words pop, and the ship and whale are just shadows in the background.
Jonah was always one of my favorite stories, so that helps too.
