Emberblue — Lovely contradiction

Description This piece was a lot of fun to do. This is my first ever rendering in acrylic, done for my rendering art class. It’s painted on 1/4 inch birch wood. The light bulb is approximately 11 inches long. The reference for this painting was this photo that I took:

During the 24 hours it took to paint this (not consecutive hours, it was 24 hours over 2 months) I had a lot of time to think. Though this painting is what it is, it reminds me of some truths that I hold dear:

The first recorded words that God spoke were “Let there be light”. The Bible also says “Let your light so shine that people may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Christians are called to be light in the darkness. We should be like those first followers of Jesus that “turned the world upside down”. The upside down symmetry in this painting reminds me that the Christian faith is full of what would seem to be contradictions. Light in the darkness, die to live, the last will be first, let go to get a better grip, loose something to find it, etc. They seem to be opposite, yet they work together beautifully. The Kingdom of God consists of these things. This painting is a tribute to the "Kingdom in Reverse" so to speak.

Thanks for viewing.

Glad you enjoyed it. I've enjoyed pondering it over and over. It is fascinating how God does these things.

amazing art!

incredible how God says things that seem odd to (our human logic) us, but they work perfectly.

Emberblue In reply to MostWanted06 [2011-05-01 01:13:34 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! And if you really want to twist your brain, think of things this way: God lives in the real reality, we only live in the "shadow" of reality. I think that is why things sometimes don't make sense to us. We have a different point of view because we are here on this temporary earth instead of in eternal heaven.

Anyhow, thanks for the comments.

This is amazing I <3 Artist Christians!
I feel they must be closer to G-d then the rest of us.
I feel bad now so I shall paint what is on my heart!

Emberblue In reply to PatternPop [2007-09-07 22:21:26 +0000 UTC]

I haven't been on DA much, so sorry for the delay in responding to this.

I don't think that artist are any closer to God than someone else would be. We express creativity similar to how God does, but it's no where close!

I hope that you had a good experience painting what was on your heart.

I've stopped to look at this piece numerous times, every time wanting to share with you of how this piece leads me to explore the profundity of my thoughts and feelings in this area.... I haven't quite been able to find the words to convey exactly how this this impacts me, but I just thought that I'd let you know truly admire and appreciate your work. Thank you, and may God bless you

Emberblue In reply to RemainInvalid [2006-10-16 16:48:15 +0000 UTC]

I am. It wasn't my intention when I did this painting....but while I was painting it did remind me of that one he did of a self portrait with an orbe reflecting his image. I also like the one with the 2 hands drawing each other. He has some great work. I think that if this piece reminds you of him then it was kinda by accident.

Are you a fan of Escher?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RemainInvalid In reply to Emberblue [2006-10-16 20:11:30 +0000 UTC]

lol it does remind me of the one with the hand with the orb, same composition with the reflection is just too much lol
i do love escher, i used to bring in a new printout of an etching to one of my friends every day in highschool. i ran out tho. anyway! grat detail in this, not enough artists focus on execution as much as idea anymore

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Emberblue In reply to RemainInvalid [2006-10-16 20:14:24 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much. That was a sweet complement. Now you have me thinking about Escher and I'm trying to get ideas of how I can do work like him.....but I can't because then it wouldn't be my own. He has some very interesting work.

excellent the way this turned out. some of the best things can come from the most mundane, and it's great how even the simple things can inspire such rewarding introspection. a nice deviation, and not just for the picture!

Emberblue In reply to outwardlyupward [2006-10-16 16:50:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. I'm trying to work on some more paintings that have a strong message behind them. I'm trying to put more thought into my work......and I'm trying to do work that gets people thinking.
