Description
well I've been feeling quite uninspired as for drawing these days. Today I saw a thumbnail and totally misinterprated what it was. This deviation is my version of what I saw and fits perfectly with how I feel today. Please let me know what you think as I haven't had much experience drawing in photoshop.Original pic here ----> [link] thanks to for the inspiration

actually one of my friends said my robot reminded him of the one from hitchhikers guide...guess it's that whole big head thing. But if it's gonna be compared to something, than that would be a good thing

oh hells yes its a good thing lol when i first read the books your robot was more what i imagined that the one in the movie but hey now when i read that movie has corrupted my imagination and i see what they showed me the characters were spoced to look like... kinda weird same thing happened with HP and LOTR and next up Narnia cept I've already seen two different renditions of that so i guess my imagination wil have a choice lol.

movies tend to do that. I was a little let down by hitchhikers but not LOTR and I'm totally psyched for Chronacles of Narnia. I've seen several versions of that as well and remember liking them.
I'm glad you like my robot it's kind of silly if you look at the link in the description as to where I got the idea.

Yeah i just got back from hitchhikers and it was fun and yeah its hard to live up to the randomness in that book i was glad they left the whale in i wanted to see the giant statue of arthor and the bird people and the cafe at the end of the world but oh well LOTR was awsome the EV was even better

for a first, this is actually very good. i dare say it will probably be better than the first time i actually USE my tablet.
i find the background a little strange but the parts you drew are VERY good, espescially the bow in the string and the bulb.. very nice. The coolest thing about this piece is where and how you got the inspiration for it. I often do the same thing, but when i hear things. like somebody will say "im gonna kick your ass" and i think i hear them say "i want your tasty egg-roll."

now how in the hell do you get "i want your tasty egg-roll." out of "im gonna kick your ass"?
now I can understand some thing like "my angel in the centerfold" for "my anus is the center hole"
I had a friend of mine who always thought the Go Go's song "our lips are sealed" was saying "Andre the Seal" so now everytime i hear it I think of that
I'm pretty bad about hearing things wrong as well.
PS
the background was a lazy copout because I don't know how to make good textures and I needed something minimalistic...I would have much rather used the background of the peice that inspired me now that was cool and the rust stuff looked good coming from behind my robots head

lol, no you are right. the misinterpretations are more like the ones you mentioned, only they're not usually in songs. well, except for "ripped up like a douche" (blinded by the light) lol. now I dont know why this happens, probably because I am standing there daydreaming while people are trying to talk to me. I am not very social anyhow

I think I day dream too much and have gone to, one too many concerts so I'm right there with you on here people wrong.
Back when I was a hairdresser I was cutting this guys hair when he said "can I ask you something?" now whenever someone starts out lik that rather than just asking, it's usually something bad or personal. I'm pretty open so I said "sure" and he replied with "is sister sex better wet?" I just about choked
I politely but firmly said "excuse me?" :comfused:
Turns out he had asked "Do scissors cut better wet?" I am such a retard
not social aye? hmmmm....I am too much so sometimes

omg, that is one of the better stories of misinterpretation I've ever heard.. sister sex, lol eww. I think the clippers made you a little deaf maybe . I must not have any stories that compare with that because if I did, I'd surely remember them. You just might have me beat when it comes to this short-circuit brain thing.

Not too shaby my dear. Careful with the airbrush though. Try and cut down the flow. I can see that you do indeed need practice, it is a very good drawing though. Remeber this too: When using text and you want the text to blend better into the whole of the drawing, make sure to rasterise the layer that the text is on. I have been teaching Photoshop for about 3 years now and can tell you that this is good. You need practice though. I could go on and on. Love the fact that you are expanding into drawing. I so much look forward to seeing more work like this!

I'm not sure what you mean by being carefull with the airbrush. I used it on various different settings and then smudged the hell out of it. only thing that bugs me is getting cleaner edges they either show too sharp or too fuzzy. I thought all rasterizing did was make it secure....guess I should start opening my photoshop bible Pretty much everything I do has been self taught. I really want to take a photoshop class but can't afford it. I'm also using a crappy mouse whicj I guess will make me better in the long run. Can't wait to get a tablet, I can only imagine what I'll be able to do then!
I'm not really expanding into drawing, I've done my own cartoons, magazine and website for years I'm just learning a new tool
Thanks!

I still think that its great! As for the rasterization, I always do that to my text layers (unless I am going out to print) because it transforms the text from vector to pixle. Makes it easier to work with. Also....Having control over the airbrush will be much easier with a tablet. I know that they are expensive though. There are some pretty good ones out there that arent too much money. Such as what I use. Take a look at AIPTEK [link] They have good quality for a good price. They are not Wacom tablets but I like them.

emilymartian In reply to Digitalenvi [2005-05-22 05:48:28 +0000 UTC]
so do you rasterize before free transforming the text? I remember rasterizing once and getting the "no no no" response from the boyfriend...he's a pro at all this crap (3D studio max, VHX, Photoshop) it's what he does for a living. Most of the time I'm on my own but on occasion I ask him for help. all though I don't think I ever got the explanation as why I wasn't suppose to rasterize at that time. He's got some really amazing stuff but won't post on DA, it just doesn't interest him....guess some of us like the attention
I still want a Wacom....I won't get anything unless it's the best...plus I think I might have a hook up to get me one close to wholesale gotta come up with the money first

We all have our reasons for doing things that we do. My reason for rasterizing the text is this: If I want to make the text editable for let's say, adding a gradiant map to it. Yes...You can do this with by leaving the text as a vector but by rasterization, you can then add it more freely to an image that isnt going to go out to print. Let say if you were to have rasterized your text on this image, you then would have the ability to blend it more smoothly into the overall look and feel to your drawing. We all do things differently. Thats just the way I do it. If you have someone who is willing to take the time and point you in the right direction though, by all means take advantage of it.

I take advantage of it all the time...usually ends up with him getting aggrivated with me and then coming back and going "wow, that looks great. You should be paying me for this". I told him he should never be a teacher
