Description
Another contender in the SDL, and a member of the extended family in the Gokiburi-gumi.
Name: Mara M. Alptraum. (Oliver's younger sister.)
Age: 13.
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 91 lbs.
Weapons:
- The oni medallion is rumored to be the source of her power. (Mara might be the only one to know this is completely untrue.)
Likes: Putting anything she finds curious or interesting on top of her head or in her hair.
Dislikes: No one is actually sure. She is ridiculously mellow about nearly anything.
Odds & Ends:
Mara is as aloof as her older brother, if not more so. Normally seen with their eldest brother, Bertram, she is constantly off in her own little world.
It's worth noting that though she doesn't speak very much, when she does, you're likely not to understand a bit of it. She speaks in what most people consider to be (and most likely is) complete gibberish, in the tone of someone who believes everything she's saying is making perfect sense. Even if you don't understand her, she won't be frustrated anytime soon. She'll likely just move on to doing something else.
Did I mention she is a hypnotist prodigy?

It's kinda strange to see characters named "Alptraum" with their last name... Thing is that German names work otherwise. A person could be called nightmare, but then it would probably not be with the word "Alptraum", but an old German word, like "Alptroum" (That's like the first version of the later, modern word). Additionally, in this case it could match better to just call him Alp. Because the Alp or Alb is the creature in German mythology who is the source of such dreams.
I could understand though If you'd say now: Meh, but I already named him. I just wanted to add this here, because I also like to give my characters German names and know the problem. A very good dictionary from modern German to medieval German can be found here: [link]

Oh, I See. I was pretty obvious now that you tell me, but when you study Japanese for a while you stop noticing the resemblance between kana/kanji and roman characters.

Well first let me say that the color and lines in this beautiful piece is wonderful. Your art is most excellent.
Yet... there is something that perhaps I do not mean to offend you, but I wanted to point out to you respectively.
I do love your character of Oliver, which is wonderfully complex and entrancing like an Escher drawing personified.
However the way that you had described this character, seems more like... to put it respectively... Like Scrappy Doo to Scooby kind of development (I mean like Mara is Scrappyβ¦
Other than that, this is a beautiful piece.
Please do not be upset with my comment. This had been bothering me a bit, so I had to speak up.

Well, I'd hardly say basing a critical opinion off of a single image and brief description is being very fair to that character. XD
There are a number of reasons you may feel this way:
1. When I finished this image it was late at night here and I wanted to be as brief as possible with Mara's description, as I had to work early the next day. I knew this was making it very clipped, but I thought I'd flesh it out later.
2. You have only seen Mara's feudal version made for a fictional samurai league here on DA. Her actual, original character would be a tad more revealing in terms of who she is and what she's like.
3. She is a minor character compared to Oliver, despite being his sister, as such, she's not going to be as completely fleshed out as he is. She has her own purpose to serve to the reader, which is different than Oliver. And it is in no way as horrendously annoying as.. "Scrappy Doo", which is a bizarre comparison, but all the same, I'll try to understand where you're coming from there, haha. She's not a spunky comedy-relief sidekick. At all. That's about the farthest prediction you could ever possibly make about her, haha, and you'd be completely wrong. Which perhaps is a good thing, since you seemed awful worried about this possibility.
