There are many monastic orders throughout the realms but none so infamous as the Way of the White Swallow. The White Swallow follows Phallos, a god whose sphere is the balance between love and war. Young Swallows are sent on missions all over the realms from small, remote villages to bustling capital cities to find recruits. It does not matter whether the recruit is a prince or a pauper, they are searching for a boy who resonates with the spark of Phallos. Those marked by Phallos may either be sensitive and tranquil souls or full of unchanneled rage - the true mark is their unnatural beauty and a sexual attraction to other men, whether they fight it or embrace it.

Recruitment starts simply by walking through public areas. No words need be spoken, no fliers are handed out, no doors are knocked upon. They search for a lingering eye, a sudden interest, a curiosity. This may come in a simple smile, a day dreaming stare, or even an act of aggression - such is the way of love and war. When the interest is gained, the Swallow secretly makes a gesture to the onlooker where they place their hand under their manhood and hold it in an open palm. This leads to either some sort of flirtation or a brawl will ensue that always ends in love making for a true recruit. Swallows are all equally trained in the art of lovemaking as in war and can take any role needed as is the way of their god, but in this initial act they keep their clothing on.

Recruits are invited to the monastery where they see firsthand the life and teachings of the Swallows. Beautiful men sharing meals, practicing their martial arts and wrestling, the sounds of love making, enjoying the peacefulness of nature and chanting are a few of their activities that attract boys who gravitate to love or war. Eventually a balance is sought between the two where a Swallow will easily be able to take the role of love maker or war maker as necessary. If the fit is right, an offer to join the order is made.

In the early morning before the sun rises, the recruits are gathered and brought to a special courtyard that is restricted for special ceremonies only. The courtyard is an elaborate mixture of garden and stone design. Naked statues of beautiful men in both mighty warlike poses and submissive sexual postures surround the courtyard in homage to Phallos. The courtyard is oriented so that the rising sun's first rays shine upon a large, ornate cauldron in the center of an amphitheatric gathering circle. The recruits make a wide half moon around the cauldron with the point for the rising sun at the opening and the Swallows fill in behind. There the Grand Swallow speaks.

"Here under the Eye of Phallos you have been called. As you have learned in the past ten-day, we are not the infamous man-eater's we have developed a reputation for through our secrecy. People fear what they don't know. We are a brotherhood tasked with maintaining the balance of love and war. We rise to battle when needed and fall to the earth in submission just the same. This is our sacred calling..."

Eventually, an offer to join the order is given with one caveat: Phallos requires a very personal sacrifice to prove their devotion. Due to the need to be able to move fluently between the spheres of love and war, themes such as ego, conquest, and familial ties must be discarded. The Swallows begin to remove their robes and the recruits see for the first time that none of them are wearing their familial cockring - the metal band given to them as a coming of age token marked with their name and family name. All men war these and consider them their most valuable possession. in short, at the coming of age ceremony, the boy must prove he can become hard and hold his seed until signaled to give it up in a gathering of men who bare witness. He takes the dominant sexual position with another man - a mentor, a brother, or a volunteer a few years older who has completed the right of passage himself. If he can hold back until signaled to spill his seed, it proves he is a boy no longer. To lose one's cockring is tantamount to losing their right to call oneself a man and is so shameful a family will often disown them. "If you are ready to begin the path of the Way of the White Swallow, simply remove your ring, step forward, and throw it into the melting cauldron where all of our rings join and become one."

As he says this, the morning sun shines its first shaft of light directly onto the cauldron which alights in molten flame. Those who wish to join, remove their precious ring and throw it into the cauldron. Those who refuse are escorted back to where they were found and a few even turn back around when they recall the wonderful experience they had until that last frightful moment.
