Description I've drawn pictures of Erik without a mask before. But I never really felt like they were true enough to him. He's too complex for me. I always thought of him as having a very dark countenance. Just think of the shadows that must be all over his face. And I'm not too handy with shadows or depth or artistic things in general. He doesn't fit well into my style, either. He's just an anomaly.

But I keep trying, and this time, I might have struck upon something. I sketched this up late at night during a study break. And I actually liked it. I liked it enough to try to color it.

Erik's supposed to be very skeletal. He's been described many times as having a death's head. His eyes are sunken, he doesn't have a nose, that sort of thing. So I tried to make his face less filled-out. And when I was coloring, I tried to put a lot of shadows on his face. And I tried to make his arm look bony.

I used a new coloring style. I don't know if I'll keep doing it this way. I also went back to my old method of outlining, because I really liked the sketch and wanted to keep most of it in there.

This isn't in the time frame of the book. Erik here is probably about twelve or so. His hair is reminiscent of John Sheppard's.

All-in-all, I like this picture. I set out to draw the original Erik. I didn't exactly succeed. Erik's supposed to look scary and hideous and... well... this guy is kind of cute. But it turned out better than previous attempts. Yay.

He IS kind of cute... and angsty. It's gotta be the hair that does it, though. I think that you achieved exactly what you set out for--I mean, he's definitely no normal 12-year-old kid.

He's not just kind of cute, he's REALLY cute.

But I always thought Erik was cute, gruesome or not. I think you did a good job at capturing him; art doesn't have to be complex to be good.

He looks like Edgar from Edgar and Ellen. Only, Edgar has a nose, and Erik does not wear striped, footie pajamas every day.

I do not know of Edgar and Ellen. So I Googled it, and I guess he kinda' does look like Edgar. His hair's a bit different, though. Hmm... Erik in striped footie pajamas.

...

Oh, gosh. Don't give me ideas... O.o But you know... if he's going to sleep in a coffin, he should at least wear cute pajamas.

Hehehe, Erik is pajamas! That's funny!
Yeah, I just thought his face looked a little like Edgar, and they way he was built.

Ooh, if you want to know more about Erik as a child, definitely pick up Phantom, by Susan Kay. Best book there is.

*grins* I've read it... it is an excellent book! Well... up until the end. I just can't agree with the end.
