Cluttered, crowded pic of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and several other recurring characters from the Mario universe.One thing that makes the Mario series better than the Sonic series(in my opinion, and besides controls, voices, and fun factor) is that it's enemies are still a big part of the series. Goombas appear in nearly every game(besides SMB2 and Super Mario Sunshine....that's it, I think), as do Koopa Troopas, Piranha Plants, Bullet Bills, etc. Shy Guys(my favorite!) have, since SMB2, become extremely talented, and in their second game, SMW2:YI, have now more than 20 different varieties, ranging from gourmets to flying gardeners. Then Sonic series always has new enemies in each installment(for the most part), and in recent games, there are only 6-8 different enemy types.
On the downside, Mario is rather undeveloped. Sure, we know he loves pasta, but that's about it. Oh, cake, too. Don't forget cake.

Well, what you say is true, but some of the enemies in later sonic games acctually appeared in newer sonic games. E-20 KIKI shows great resemblance to it's earlier version, Coconuts, in looks and behavior. The were both gold colored monkeys who threw explosives. Coconuts' bombs looked a lot like nuts. KIKI was always standing in a high place, while thanks to the 2-D view in earlier sonic games, Coconuts always seemed to be clinging to the trunk of a palm tree.
There is also a great variety in Sonic Adventure 2 enemies, and some of them are acctually millitary robots

What do goombas do? Can you use them as springs?

They try to waddle into Mario. You can kinda use them like springs, but that's true of any Mario enemy you can jump on.

I know all of the Sonic Adventure 2: Battle enemies, and you can only use the Spring Beetles as springs. The only known way of defeating them is using Magic Hands, the only useless upgrade. I play SA2B on my GameCube in 2011! I don't really play Mario, but if I get told his games are good, I might try some.
