Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, is like a dinosaur brought back to life from DNA extracted from fossils found in the ruins of the USSR to create a "Sovietic Park". Except that today's Belarus is not an entertaining theme park but the last dictatorship in Europe, and it proudly claims itself as such.
Elected democratically in 1994, he quickly faced difficulties within the framework of an economy still Sovietized. Thanks to infusions from Russia, he managed to stay afloat. But as early as 1996, he made a sharp turn. He increased his prerogatives, had 89 "disloyal" deputies out of 110 arrested, appointed a new parliament, and strengthened the powers of his KGB (which he did not rename). He decided on an even closer rapprochement with Russia and attributed his economic woes to the West. On this occasion, he declared: "The German order reached its peak under Hitler. This corresponds to our idea of a presidential republic and the role of the head of state."
From one successive term to another, he relentlessly eliminated any form of opposition, resorting to assassinations without hesitation. Belarus has become a total dictatorship despite strong opposition from its people, crushed in blood. But he's unapologetic: "Better to be a dictator than gay," he declares. He is also openly anti-Semitic. Today, 10 to 15 people are arrested every day for political reasons! A total vassal of Vladimir Putin (the annexation of Belarus is even rumored), he is a zealous double of him.
To such an extent that 4 days after the death of Navalny in prison, one of his main opponents, Igar Lednik (leader of the Social-Democratic Party), died in the penitentiary where he was serving a 3-year sentence for "defamation" of the president. At first glance, he was ill, and appropriate care for his condition was denied to him. Don't be fooled by his benign appearance or the often ridiculous extravagance of his remarks; Lukashenko is another butcher!
