Description
At one point Lydia found broken army vehicle with a couple of corpses. Rifles was way too heavy and recoil nearly broke her arm. But one of soldiers had some funny looking pistol and some ammo for it. This looks promising, she thought. I guess for her small and light frame, she would even have some trouble with a 5.56/.223 carbine. Though I'd recommend at least a 9mm pistol calibre carbine, easier to shoot accurately at longer distances than an actual pistol, easier to find 9x19 ammunition than 40mm grenade rounds, plus it's lighter on weight and recoil compared to even rifles chambered for intermediate rounds(5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm).

The grenade launcher is more of a utility weapon to lay a smokescreen or distract monsters with flare.
Also, I was thinking that she eventually could get some 9mm submachine gun as the main weapon to defend herself.

No. It's not a flare gun. It's a pistol sized 40mm grenade launcher manufactured by some local lunatics.
A fictional weapon for the story. It is inspired by a gun from Blacklight Retribution and based on the design of an airsoft grenade launcher.

Извините, гугл. Перевожу, почему нельзя было подобрать у них пистолеты? Ведь они небольшие и отдача у них не такая как у винтовок. Плюс ко всему его всегда можно спрятать под одеждой.

Её внимание привлёк этот гранатомёт и она подумала что из всех пистолетов, что там были, этот лучший и другие подбирать незачем. Она может и умная, но всё ещё подросток, а потому иногда делает неправильные выводы и принимает поспешные решения.

An accident in the garage. She was helping her father as usual. They were installing an engine. Her dad was moving an engine with the crane and Lydia was correcting him from the pit. At some point, her overconfidence (she was helping her dad in the garage since she was 8) and sudden breaking of a chain of the crane lead to her finger being crushed by falling engine. Needless to say, her dad fell into depression for several months and was only pulled out of it by Lydia eager to go back to the garage with him. She's much more careful now

I really enjoy this Lydia's series - not only based on one of my favourite games, but also very solidly made on the technical front. And I do like the idea of an animated short with that character, especially after seeing the walking styles you posted earlier. Keep up the good work!

Whoa buddy, talk about a wristbreaker!! You never realize how strong some firearms are until the kick is all in your hand. But I figure Lydia's had her share of experiences with weird, scrounged weaponry... hahaha.
Another beautiful piece with this gal! I'm really loving the lineart here, and the crisp cell shading too. It gives me a sort of "animated film" vibe. About how long does it take you to do this linework? I've heard clean lines can take a long time, but that effort pays off!

Lines took about 8 hours. Coloring about 6 or so. Adobe Flash is not the best software to make pictures but I'm used to it. Tried SAI but didn't liked the results. On the other hand Flash is vector so picture is sharp and clear plus I can resize it any way I want without loosing quality.
