Tis a "space-rts" model - the model itself isn't by me, i just optimized/changed/textured/unwrapped it, and made the texturesTook a lot longer than you'd guess.

My first like ever decent self-made texture map.. Kinda happy with it.
Its a carrier
To see it in full resolution click on Download, for some reason DA thinks its ok to scale down real full view to some half-resolution-preview ;/

I'm working on a ship like this and was wondering how to get the hull texture to look like that, I've used the standard hull texture but it just looks off. How did you do yours?

Mhh, given that this is a Commission and i am actually paid by Blind Mind Studios to texture another guys models which he made for Blind Mind Studios .... Tis neither stealing nor wrongly described.
And why would i hide this fact, when i post stuff thats licensed to somebody, in this case Blind Mind Studios, then you can assume i do have permission to do so by them. ^^

Of course Don't worry about it, i am well aware that art theft and wrongly crediting people is a major issue for artists so i can understand where the confusion could come from.

Die Texturen sind recht gut, das Model... geht so, nicht mein Geschmack.
Vielleicht könnte das Schiff später noch ne Nummer oder einen Fraktions-Symbol oder was ähnliches erhalten. Etwas Dirt & Damage kann man auch direkt auf die Diffuse Map klatschen, aber das ist auch Geschmackssache.

Mhh ja ich mach wie gesagt keine Models für dieses Projekt Hab es auch schon ganz schön getuned, vorher war es bedeutend Kugel- und Halbkugel-lastiger und sah komisch aus.. aber da ich net fürs modellieren bezahlt werde hält sich mein Elan eher in Grenzen.
Sobald dieses Projekt vorbei ist und ich bezahlt bin werde ich mal wieder paar schönere Schiffchen machen. Mein Geschmack sind die nämlich alle auch net, aber ich bin schon froh überhaupt Texturen zu machen.. ist ja sonst nicht so mein Metier.
Das Ziel ist natürlich endlich mal ne Animation zu machen. Ich hab jetzt 10*3ghz hier rumstehen (netzwerk mit quad und 6 Kern prozi) und da macht das schon mehr Spaß
Aber wahrscheinlich werde ich vorher was anderes machen, nix Raumschiffiges also.. nach der Aktion mit diesem Spiel brauch ich Abwechslung.

I am in envy and awe at your UV wrapping sir! Top marks, it's something I wish I had the patience to sit down and develop personally. This model and texture certainly wouldn't look out of place alongside the spaceships from Homeworld 2!

Well its still nowhere near that quality, the people who textured the homeworld 2 ships were amazing, they included light and shadows (of geometry that doesn't cast shadows in the engine itself) in their textures which is so much work that i can not even fathom how long that must have taken, even it their end-textures are very low-resolution because of it.
What i do is at best puzzling my texture elements together to find new shapes for spaceships, if it comes to large open sections (like the side hull) i often have no idea what to put there.

Thanks ,p I like it a lot to be honest... if people are following my stuff lately they notice me moving away from 1 size fits all textures and into more detailed texturing. Sadly its so much work ;/

No, they wouldn't. The tools are out there, and it doesn't matter how someone uses them. What matters is what comes out of it and if it is good So unless it's just a trade secret of yours, I see no reason to laugh at you. (the last part of this comment was supposed to be taken with a grain of salt. Sarcastic.) Anyway, your 3D stuff is pretty cool

Sieht soweit schon ganz gut aus, wirkt aber viel zu sauber und eben. Dirt-Look und Normalmaps sind Pflicht

Jo aber im Moment ist die Game-Engine noch net so weit.. die supported zwar bump/specular aber leider noch nicht so wie ich das brauche
Wenn es soweit ist zeige ich dann schon in-game shots

Das Spiel heißt Star Ruler ist ein Indy-4x Spiel.. also Strategie. Mehr darf ich glaub ich net verraten
