Netherlands Antilles(Oct. 21, 2008) The amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) visits the Netherlands Antilles for the humanitarian service project, Continuing Promise 08 (CP). Kearsarge is supporting the Caribbean phase of CP, an equal-partnership mission between the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Brazil, Nicaragua, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.Related content

My first impression to this photo was simply "Wow!"
Ok, just a ship isn't exactly the most facinating thing to photograph unless it is something out of the ordinary, but considering the setting, the magnificent colour and light conditions I am ready to call this something really out of the ordinary.
The size is well portraited here, having been aboard this class of amphibious carrier some years ago I know the size.
Just for the note I visited the USS Wasp (LHD1)

hey thank you very much for the great feedback. The Wasp is not a bad ship, they just pulled it out of the yards not too long ago. Amphibs are the way to go

So they gave it an overhaul or something?
Now that would be something I would like to see, it looked a bit dusty here and there when I was given a tour in 96. Though to get some photo I'll have to persuade my father to give up his negatives.

yeah, the Wasp is getting very old, she is the first one with an LHD HAUL. The Kearsarge is fairly new but she just entered the yards to dry dock for a year. I believe she just turn 15 years old while we were under weigh.

Don't even get me started, just thinking about classic vessels going into overhaul due to age makes me feel old... and I'm turning 26 in three weeks time...ugh.....
